Was hoping to have it stand on its wheels by now, but was let down by my laser cutting guy, and other suppliers.

Need to get the chassis on its wheels, so I can load the wight of motor Gearbox onto the chassis, and then work out body placement and height.

So now I am hoping to do some work this weekend, but do not know how far I will get.

Till then

Herman

Just had an Idea..

Why not call my vw Beetle Truck "MeConFusco"

Me because its mine
Con ..dition is suspect till done
Fusca was the Brazilian name for the Beetle.
ConFusco because the whole thing is confused
And MeConFusco just sounds nice .....I think...

OR should it stay MeFusco

What say yhee all.....

Do you plan to eventually go the Sabs route and have it registered, or more like a work of art?

The chassis, would it be flappy like a Unimog or truck, meant to twist a bit. Or high torsional strength like a car or kombi.

When you mention "the whole thing is confused"... would that be the concept, the way it is now or the state of the creator?

Nice work so far.

Nice work so far.

Aim is to register it and have it for road use.

It will not be a full mono-cock body as the cab is only 1/3 of the truck.

But the chassis will be stiffened up by the "Selective" body work and tyre guides on the back

This has to be done this way to reduce weight, but yes it will allow for a bit of twist.

This is the reason for having an beam back axle system which will control a bit of twist.

And it will be running on air bags at the back. This will allow for softer ride and ease of loading.

But now I am running away with myself and the build... :o

Hope to post photo of front suspension by tonight.....

As Said, my goal today was to get the front wheel on the ground.

Well I managed to do that. :D

Now we have a rolling Chassis.

Now I need to hang the motor and gearbox, 1st for weight and 2nd for placement of the body.

The next point is to fit the Cab and to get the placement and the height right.

Then only can I fit the Steering rack, as this must line up with the steering wheel and shaft.

Yes, you right, I will be fitting an swivel joint, but this still has to be in the right place.

So here you go, one rolling chassis.......

Till next Sunday guys, as I will be out of office for a week.

So managed to do a bit of work the last day or so.

Got the engine and gearbox mounted on their own mountings, and fixed to the chassis.

As the only way to get it right is to measure 10 times, cut once, tack weld on, measure another ten times, and then decide if you want to weld it fully or not.

Well as this is all in my head, I am not sure if something will later have to be cut out as it would be in place of something more important.

The observant of you notice the dog leg cross stiffener has been moved from last placement and just tacked into its new place.

The next thing would be to cut down the stand legs and cross brace of the body to get it to the correct level to mount it to the chassis, and still be able to get it in and out of the garage.

Then the steering rack will go in....

But now I am getting ahead of myself Again....

Till next time

Thanks for looking

Herman

It is really impressive what you managed to do so far. I read this thread from the start an I realised it is exactly a month since you started (the thread).

Thanks guys, your encouragement is much appreciated. :D

Managed to entice kids to come for "lunch" (should read "free Labour") and we got the different parts into the correct sides of the workshop to enable me to continue with the build of MeFusco.

By the way as you may know the Brazilians call the beetle Fusca, why then did this silly Old Toppie call it McFusco. ??

Well as in Italian, Name ending in A is female and one that ends in O is male.

As can now be seen, this is no lady this is one bad :bn:

Lifted and trimmed cross bracing to the correct height to get the truck in and out the workshop garage door.

Would be a bit of a problem if when done, needing to cut building to bits to get truck out.

Cut and trimmed body ( Yes @sean & @jolas , with my trusty grinder  ), to slip over the chassis.

Had to be sure the cab covers the motor and that the Mc Pearson struts fit into the wheel arches.

You guys are right, they stick OUT...

But this was know right from the start, and should be covered with extended mud guards.

As the front is rounded and the back would be more box like, these mud guards should blend the two shapes together.

Well in my head they do ..

So now you guys want some photo's me thinks....

Well here goes..

So now the next is to renew the rack steering unit and have that fitted.

Will be needing steering universal joints for this build if anyone know where to get them  that would be appreciated.

till next post

thanks for looking
