Any bus model could be ordered in walk-thru configuration. However, I have never heard of a SA-assmebled split bus walk-thru. The factory walk-thrus are easy to spot, as they have partial bulkheads behind each front seat.

I think its a hack job, I cant see any welds, but would a walk through not have support behind the seats ?

Thanks Fig , I still like the idea of walk thru panel with decent interior and padding in the back , even if its a hack.

Well, for a minute, you might have thought I asked just for the sake of asking, or increasing my number of posts, but, unfortunately, that is not in my nature... I have read that there are major structural problems with Splitties of which the bulkhead have been hacked out and people that know more than me have railed against it.

I know that there were walkthrough splitty panelvans made by VW, but the bulkheads were only partially removed (in the middle) and AFAIK, there was a strut or two going up to the roof too. I saw a pic once... I'll have a look later in my book.

Anyway, why would VW have put a bulkhead in there, for somewhere to stamp the VIN number?

I get what your saying, I have seen those with the partial bulk-head in,
I would like to keep it a walk through, I will have a look around maybe I can get partial-bulk heads for support.
This bus is really full of mods,wires, welds and holes, Im trying to fix it up as I go along

Hmm... a Walkthrough Panelvan is a splitty "without side windows and rear seats and cargo doors on both sides"... Not what I'm looking for...

As the Fig says, you could order your panel van or camper (post 1955) with M199 which gave you no bulkhead at all and a swiveling driver's seat.

Pre 1955, M057 would give you the cut-out bulkhead with a single post going up to the roof.

If you asked for M057 after 1955, you got wooden slats on your pick-up's load area... You must admit, it's almost the same...

If you had a bus other than a camper or a panel van and you asked for M199... you got seat belt mounting points... eish Depending on which web site you look... Kombis would get you a swivel seat too.

But I think it would be a good idea to find out what M199 entailed. Just a saw and some swively seats, or did they actually build in some gussetts for reinforcements?

Your just giving me more and more homework

Repainted my steering, very pleased with the end result ,steering wheel is spotless without cracks now but my spraying needs some work.To bad my badge is scratched aswell
Sanded the steering wheel, primered, sanded, primered, sanded, sprayed, clear coated

Hey Splitz, nice job. You can polish out those scratches first with fine sandpaper, then very fine and then Brasso or the proper plastic polish used for helmet visors. Takes forever - something to do when watching TV.
