Post by Junior »

Hi this is my first time reading this post and wow It is really interesting I have just read every single word from page 1 till now and that is a hell of allot of reading but was well worth it! I am 16 and have done up a 1975 beetle but was in better condition than yours was in when I got it and I just fiddle around and didn't spend any major money on it. I have now just started on a 1964 beetle and it has been really fun so far! I'm doing a full restoration. I might be getting a spare 1964 petrol tank and could post it if you still need one I will let you know If i get it. I love the road stylers Idea they would look amazing, I'm sorry to hear that the guy took of with the money. Have you fixed the rust in the bottom of your new 60s back lid I would love to see how you did it.

I haven't done any work to the 58 rear lid yet am waiting until we in the new house and then will get stuck into it and then post up some pics.

So since car is wrapped up I decided to start on something I should of finnished along time ago  the rottiserie.

Went out to the mine this morning to take my pick of metals I was going to need,
and came back with a bakkie load of different thickness plates, sqaure tubing and so on.

Here is the first upright I finnished today. It stands just over 1.35m high.

Finished off my second upright today. I still have to cut the 2.65m middle section and weld it up and add the 6 gussets that join onto it. Then I can weld on the slip pipe and the body mounts and it will be done and ready to hold the body.

Will post up more pics once the middle section is done. :D

So the rotisserie is 99% ready, just has has to have the middle section welded in when we get to the new house.

Today while moving the car, I took a few pictures of what the 6" beam looks like on the car.

Ohk, so today 911 days ago I picked up the beetle...damn it has been way too long!

So here is abit of an update.

So have been stripping the roof of paint which is taking a long time, but is definatly worth it...the metal is soo clean underneath the paint!
Then today pulled out the box of parts that had to be looked at, and tackled the steering box. Was actually kinda easy to pull apart. So I pulled it apart cleaned everything in petrol, removed all the grease which was lumpy and old. All it now needs is new seals, bearings and for me to tap the two holes ontop for bolts as im going to be using gearbox oil instead of grease. Then before I strip it again to fit the seals and bearings, will send it off to get blasted so while its stripped I can shoot it with some black paint.

Ohk so after qite some time I will soon have money again to put towards the project, have had a verry limited budget and hasnt allowed me to do much on the car.

This means in the next month or two I will be back 100% to building Toy 1.

Now what I want to know is, ive heard that its a long dragged out process to get a car without papers back onto the system....

From what I got out of the search I did most people who go get papers for their car, well their cars are still running and on the road. What will I need to do to get papers for a non-running car?

Thanks :D

Thanks Herman. Have sent him an email and will see what he says.

I know its not stolen  had that checked.
Stefan wrote:Hi Shane

Good news your beetle is not "Stolen", but according to the system still belongs to a certain Mr. CP Botes of Kimberley. It is a 1968 Beetle, colour blue, according to the number you gave me.

Hope this helps. :hangloose:

Stefan
