Like have said before this beam will not be used for everyday driving ONLY as a test to see what the out come will be.

I would love to experiment but I don't have the money to burn.

There is alot of things that get done with it.

As i go along i will explain what happens and how it works and so on.

But i wont be able to wrap my brain around it all at once.

Am about to go cut the supports for the beam now.


Please guys I have had alot of thrown at me and i understand why but all im trying to do is at the end of the day i want to have a answer not an opinion.

Eben I am building a car that will drive.
The thing is I have started have all the stuff needed now i need to start finnsihing them off that all i want to achive.

Eben - I used to live in the UK and brought my car back with me when I came. When people heard I was daring do something so outrageous, a constant refrain was thrown at me 'ah well, you can't roadworthy a left hand drive car' (the fact it was right hand drive was beside the point!!) The car (a diesel) was worthless in the UK as it was hitting the emission limits - cost me R15,000 in transport and taxes and I've driven it here since 2004 for essentially the cost of diesel, registration and a couple of oil changes.

Anyway, I heard it so often that now when I see newish foreign cars, I look to see if they are LHD - and PLENTY are. So 'somehow', they are getting through roadworthies.

I once rebuilt a Yamaha XT 500 from pieces out of a box. When I went to register it, they told me I must pay 14 years back taxes - which was more than the bike was worth. I declined, and was having a moan to someone at work about it - they said - easy, take it to a 'queue for you' type place - they have contacts and will sort it out. So I did. Cost a fraction of the full price, and to my surprise, not only did I get a registration cert., I also got a roadworthy and licence disk!! I was gobsmacked.

What I'm saying, is that should you wish, you probably can get this mod through, particularly if it actually works. I'm not debating the ethics of it tho.

The easiest thing is to rwc it with the orig beam, and then, should you wish to, fit the bushing'd one post-rwc - you only have to do it once, on registration after purchase.

Lol Eben well will have to wait and see what happens then.

1st support is cut 1 more to go, will go over the weekend to see if I can find the beam.

And please be very carefull when driving a car on the road with out front shocks.

No manufacture runs with out them. It is one of those items you got to have.

Tom, if it works then it works if it doesnt it doesnt.I dont intend on having it live on the car, my beam that will be used on the car is sitting in a jig ready to be welded up once the shock towers get cut.Strange you say that while searching the web th other day I found a picture of a original vw shockless beam when i can i will post pics of iti will.

I'm curious as anything, but just be very careful. undampened systems are dangerous, even if it works at lower speeds it might not work very well at higher speeds.... but as Dr. Seuss would say "try it, try it, and you may, try it and you may i say"

The learning Tutorial to a shockless beam,hey you never know if you read this and it works out in the end, you might of learnt something new.

Uerathane bushings
On the beam urethane bushings are fitted instead of roller bearings as the urethane bushings provide friction to control the movement of the suspension. Thus almost takes the place of the shock but not completely, since your ACVW is fitted with torsion leafs (these sit in your beams tubes) your ACVW has a these leafs continually forcing its way back to its original position. Your torsion leafs are attached to your trailing arms that sit inside the urethane bushing that fits in to the tube.
