No idea, Armand would have to be the one to reply to that, but compared to my old modded 1.6 that I got from calooker, this one has about 4 times the pull of that motor. Where that motor maxed out of steam at higher revs, this one starts to really pull.

So Far:
Ever since I saw pictures of Brians speedster, I was dead impressed, but many factors including the fact that I wanted to build up my own speedster meant that I didn't really consider buying a rolling/ titles/ licenced car as an option. That was until Brian came back to me with a revised price. Yesterday myself and my wife drove through to his place in Jhb and met up with him and his fianc? to eye out for myself what he was selling.

The Speedster is currently running on original 356 chromed wheels which was a big deciding point for me. It makes the car.

Brian was held up for a while and his dad already opened the garage and let me view the car, at that stage I already knew that I wanted it. For those who don't know much about replica speedsters, they are in fact pretty big, even though they are based on a VW beetle shortend pan.

I was in love, Brian and his fianc? pitched up a few minutes later and after a bit more talk, I took it for a drive. Every single person who I drove past, almost fell out of their cars to look at the speedster.

Price was agreed on, price was paid, paperwork is in my hand and all I'm waiting for now is for my funds to clear on his side and a flatbed truck quote to bring it to my house.











Immediate Plans, well first is steering box/ link & king pins and set the brakes down a tad. I want to enjoy this for a while and work on the replacement motor as well.

Interior I want to retrim the entire inside as well as fit the older style interior door levers that come off a 60's beetle to add a bit more vintage to it. Close up the dash holes as well as the radio hole and fit the 3 gauge speedster kit from the states. A bit more dash flair with some porsche details should about do it for me. I also want to entend the dashboard section to resemble the original one. This is going to call for a lot of trim.



Exterior: Total respray, I have a small repair to do on the passenger door handle and this added to the dash mods will make the entire respray worth it. Slightly darker silver is called for though.

IMPI, I was going t oask if that is actually how a muffler works on the inside, until I saw your comment about it being based on a good mark/make.

I do have one question though. Does a muffler not have to be 'tuned'? How are you planning getting around this(if so)?

Whilst it is true that seriously high performance engines are usually fitted with pipes of equal length into a collector there is some issues with this for the car used on the street the engines such modified tends to be very peaky and only have power at high revs and then only a narrow power band compare the torque output of a 16v versus the same capacity 8 valve hence todays needs for 6 speed cars I have found that type fours dont mind somewhat strange exhausts. I also increased pipe diameters to compensate for less than ideal flow rates There is some method to this madness as the exhaust is built to resemble another exhaust and that gave 150 hp out of 1500cc back in 56
search the net for a picture of a cut open 911 silencer for some education as oposed to what the aftermarket tries to sell.

Armand what size pipe did you use and what is the dimension between the two halve pipes on the box ie .the box width.
The other question;- Where do you get the time for all these things Im sure yu have projects of your own thats ongoing as well.

Hi the tubing used is 42 mm which is also the first decent size for investment cast bends since I dont own a tube bender the ends of the box is 5mm tube split in half and the filler is 90mm this makes for a 50mm thick silencer which helps ground clearance the steel is mostly 2.5mm thick which also helps with damping. I thought about another way of making the silencers as well using perforated tubing and filling with fiberglass basically a glass pack but I have found them to resonat and since the designers of that silencer claimed less resonance without disturbing flow I thought why not. once installed we will know how it sounds though

Good things do take time though, I mean how long have we been talking about and collecting parts for my engine? 2-3 years now?

Armand?...........do you think that we're going to have to look at a remote oil filter set-up? Those pipes seem a bit close to the filter.............
