Aww Herman! This is not fair. The purpose of a project thread is for us to follow each step of the project!
Ok... Here we go, from the start.
So it started with a artist drawing, and an accompanying passage that said it could not be built.
Then I got a beetle body,
Then I had to mark the lines I thought will give me the shape that I needed without a full disconnection the two parts...
It was cut and bent to the max without infringing on the passenger leg room or spare wheel area..
Now we had to cut rust out and fix the "A" pillars, and frame up the body as it was broken in half, with no bracing when I got it.
The bad back half was also cut off and discarded.
Had to fill and weld up the gaping slot that was created with the nose moving down ....
Had the split bus rusty back quarter corners and split them in half as the beetle has a half roll and the bus has a full roll waist line.
This was then welded back into the beetle front to form the back of the cab....
Then we had to fit the back wall as well as finish the roof.
This took more then one attempt. In fact it was cut weld remove, cut weld remove ................
Till the shape was what I wanted.
So as the cab still has to have a number of things added, cut out, welded in and adjusted, when the rest of the chassis and drive chain is complete, the decision is to sandblast, and primer the cab to stop rust. Off to sandblaster..
This was done and here it is after primer. .....
So now you guys are up to date, but before you criticize the weld and un-ground joints, please note this is not the final look this iss just a holding stage till the final fitment and adjustment to fit the cab to chassis, begins...
