This was just change of ownership right? As in from one sale to another?

Its a different story when the vehicle has been imported and it doesn't have south African registration papers.

Any already existing LHD vehicles on the system are fully legal to register.

Technically it is illegal to introduce new LHD's onto the system, but as with corrupt Africans in any municipal department, I'm sure it is possible to work around it.

My apologies guys. Actually realised right after hitting the submit button I was being a dumb ass. Yes, it was already registered. I only did the change of ownership.

Thanks for clarifying the matter.

In case anyone's interested in dealing with these guys, they're offering a somewhat molested (NOT original as advertised) early baywindow Westfalia:

No price listed, but likely way overpriced like everything else they're offering.

Also note original 1969 deluxe microbus:

The 69 deluxe started at R198k and the "restored" 69 at R300k.

Maybe we're just poorer than we used to be. In general. On a global scale.

This is just ludicrous. I honestly believe that if anyone pays 300k for that baywindow, they are infact stupid!!

There are much nicer vehicles out there for less than a 1/4 of this fools price.

I really don't know what these guys are all about....

Because I have a 1969 Westy I had a good look at the one they are offering. Maybe to purchase and restore if the price is right but mainly to get a price indication for what mine is worth. So I contact them through Gumtree and a guy by the name of Edward Jonker gets back to me. He says the asking price is R110k strictly not negotiable. If thats the price on that wreck it probably makes mine worth R200k.

A day later he comes back to me and says the bus has been sold for R50k? I'm confused???

Tax/ SARS... Capital gains tax etc.

Wonder what is tax implication if someone like this runs a "below the radar" business on a large scale? May take a while for SARS to pick this up, but when they do...

Haha, I doubt anyone would go to the lengths of advertising dozens of overpriced buses on gumtree just to mess with us.

I assume you know something about these guys that we don't, Jacques, since they seem to be in competition with you and Oliver with regard to pulling project buses out of Zim.

Dawie, I am a bean counter by trade and let me tell you it is not as far fetched as you might think....

Believe it or not but SARS has one of the best systems in the world and with legislation like FICA etc. it is becoming more and more difficult to hide from them. Currently they are focused on the big stuff (mostly companies) but like you said, when they pick this up and look back retrospectively, you will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Its funny how ignorant people can be and some people genuinely believe that the buy and sell of cars from their home premises is not a taxable trade.
