Did a high pressure clean of the Bell house and motor to prep for the rebuild.
@--&$%$%@%... This greeted me in the bell house .. The crack and hole were cacked up in the oily mess thrown up from under the vehicle ..the cleaning revealed this nasty hole..
Looks like I am in the market for a gearbox... , shit ....
I will need to find a specialist who's prepared to collect the bug as she is ..( to be towwed)
I will continue on the motor, I can't lift the bug high enough to get the gearbox out and would prefer a deced 'bug' garage
To do that... --- Any idea who will be willing to collect and do this here in Gauteng ( East rand /KemptonPark)

Got a quote to replace transmission,
Its a little steep considering the gearbox is working without hassle..
I then called on a aluminum welding guru.. He will repair my bell housing at a tenth on the cost of a new box...
I will go the welding route .. As the gearbox is 100%... I only need a bell housing repair...
Got home to Escoms usual load shedding so decided to work on the motor
I stripped off what I could in an hour ..
I will now strip, sand and prep the fan shroud and covers for spraying ...

Been busy
We fitted new push rod tubes ... Found most of the tappet adjustment screws needed replacement ..
Got new ones will be fitting these Sat.
I painted the tins and decided to go for a chrome fan housing to finish the clean look..
Did a mock up ... Now to replace all gaskets and seals ...
Today my Torque master tool arrived so I can remove the flywheel without a 3m pole and jumping ..
This tool is great

Have been busy doing bonnet interior, finished putting in top carpets and cubby hole ... Touched up dash..
All while my old man and I did a remodel of the engine
I decided on going over to the dual carb set up...
Bought a set from a fellow aircooled fan here on the forum... Thanks Dixtoy...
I have also replaced acc cable / clutch cable and found the clutch pedal hook was a tad worn
So we welded it .. Just need to round it off nicely then refit pedals with new acc pedal..
Motor now has new plugs in.. Tappets set with new set of tappet adjustment screws
All bits tightened up ..Scat dual carb linkage fitted after a minor adjustment ..
Motor is almost ready to be put back.. Need to put exhaust on then tins and put her back...

Got engine in today
@##$%&&$%#$$???!*&&%#
Had to put it in twice .. I didn't grind enough of the weld away
My Dad and I roped my Mom in to wiggle the motor into place
I had to remove the exhaust and carbs before she would slot in....
But once she did it was smooth ..
Now I need to find tiny hands to get the carbs bolted down...
But that's tomorrow worries..
I've fitted a Huco electric pump up front ( pics will follow tom)
