What a rude oxymoron!
"Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car, and oversteer, the rear.
Hp is how fast you hit the wall, and Torque is how far you take the wall with you."

One thing is for sure though. In it's current state, it is NOT a nice car to get in B2B traffic...........I found out much to my dismay this morning.

But it did point out a few issues that will have to be sorted.

- engine does run a bit heavy on the sauce
- clutch line seems to be snagging somewhere are the clutch becomes very stiff when driving it for a while, not nice when trying to find the sweetspot for riding the clutch at robots.
- I need to get some door rubber wedges in there as they rattle on a rough road.

Besides that............man it's nice.... ....left home at 6h30 to skip traffic so it was still nice and cool. Got to work 30 min later..........but I'll stick with my daily driver though for bumper 2 bumper.

Update:22-03-2007

Well she's licenced and in my name.
Repairs so far are as follows.

- Adjusted the steering box (all it needed)
- Adjusted link and king pics and greased (all it needed)
- Currently in the process of pulling the motor so we can clean it up, fit a new engine compartment rubber and some fibreglass work.
- Two rear shocks are on order as it hates corners.
- Complete engine service as well as installation of electronic ignition and a bigger sealed battery.

I've also decided to keep my 2.0 type 4 as a bit of extra punch would be nice to have, mods on the 2.0 will be small, but will consist of upright conversion, stock 2.0 solex carbs, custom manifolds and cam. Besides that the rest will remain stock.

I also picked up the paint for the respray, gunmetal metallic charcoal from VW....(refer pic on the first page to see what it looks like).Should be good with a blood red interior.....I have some spots to clear up and fix before I spray, but it's minimal work, I'm also at the same time going to fill the dash as well as well as stone chip the inside of the fenders and fit a set of rear speakers in the fender wells. (stay tuned)

Is their any speedsters out their.

Post by rowlands »

 Great to hear that their are other Speedster owners out their. What ever happend to the Speedster Spyder Cub of South Africa? I have had my speedster for over 2 years with little contact with other Seeedster owners. I had contact with Eugine at Venom Cars (my car was in the shop when it liqudated), and he spoke about getting a club together, but nothing happened. I met Johan when I picked up my car. Has he opened shop yet and where is he operating from? Will speak later. Ta!!

Hey rowlands, before I bought my speedster, I was looking high and low for the speedster/ spyder club and got no joy, only really old files of archieved material.

Johann seems to be trying to get replicars/ VCC/KCC back on it's feet and I see that they currently have a website that's under construction as well, so there is hope.

As for clubs, I currently hang with my friends from here and the VW sport beetle bus club in Pretoria. I know of two other speedsters in pretoria that I've seen on a few occassions, but the owners look like snobs.

Yup, we want to see pictures.

Cheers

On another note..........the 2.0 motor was dropped off at Armand yesterday to see if what I bought is junk or not.

Stay tuned.

Well. She went in this morning to get the engine serviced and all of the oil seals replaced as well as the starter bush that was totally knackerd. Also to turn around the forget me plates that were installed incorrectly by the PO. So pepi shoudl be happy with his new purchase.

This car will only be used for the VW night next week and then strip and cleaned for cars in the park and then the engine will go to it's new owner......I hope he'll be happy.

If all goes well, i should have it back today.

I've also fitted my AA badges and D badge back on as well as fitting my fire extinguisher under the dash, just in case.......

Regarding the EFI set-up. All I can say is that I'll stay well within my budget of R5000-00

Stay Tuned, pics to follow on Friday.

I may have a problem with the 9th, our christening of our daughter may be bumped up to the 12th August and seeing that it's in Klerksdorp, we'll be leaving Pretoria on the 10th (friday) and staying with in-laws....

I'll keep you updated though, we should know by this weekend.
