Still busy with the wiper motor.
Got 60's wiper arms and blades from Calooker, looking much better now!
Just need to get the risistor to run the 6v motor on the 12v system and all's good for rain!

Well that's good news. I'd say you've got a few months before the rainy season but after last weeks showers I'm not so sure...

had her brakes done by Joao the weekend after they failed on the way to RTS Christmas in July Run!
WOW, what a difference having new shoes to make her stop!
I'd guess there's about 60% more stopping power than before!
Never knew what I was missing!
Big thanks to Mr Valente for a job well done!

Dude!
I went to RTS in a Kia to keep you company and you did not pitch!

The Beetle's left rear brake piston seal popped out so I only had the park brake to stop!
Luckily it happened about 1km from home and not in Midrand!
Busy with small things on the Beetle.
Next job is a new dizy, the one in the Bug is a bit dodgy!
Needs a spring and some spacers, so I'll find a good used one soon.
Hope you're going to Cars in the Park! (Kia or no Kia )

i was just about ready to join, but some family issues popped up and had to change plans
i shall be there on the 5th and i'm hoping if i eat all my veggies and i'm a good boy that i will be able to attend in something aircooled.

why not change your dizzy to something more electronic?

Was following that thread.
But I'd like to keep the Beetle as standard as I can manage!
The CP1 dizzy is cool, not sure about the transparent cap though.

just got the fright of my life!
as I turned a corner my beetles door flung open and I saw the tar fly past!
pulled the door closed but it would not stay shut!
got home and saw that there must be a spring loose or something that pushes the catch down into position.
anyone have an idea of how to remove the latch from the door for repairs?
I looked in my Heynes manual but it does not show my 62 type mechanism

after an elaborate choice of PG18 words I managed to get the door latch out!
also had about 70% of the door innards laying on the floor next to me.
the culprit was found!
a spring that pushes everything into place inside the door latch had worn through and collapsed.
after a couple of phone calls and allot of scratching in the garage I found a replacement!
The spring on an old park brake cable was the correct diameter, only needed to cut it to length and put everything back together!
All done and ready to hit the road with a closed door!

how long is a piece of string?
It all depends on what is wrong with the car.
Price is directly coupled to the amount of broken or faulty things in the motor!
Best advice would be to go and see the mechanic and tell him everything you think is wrong and then tell him what you want.
From there you get an estimated price to work with!
