As per the other post...
Toke one look at the cone air filter, .. and dumped it....

That can't filter air if it tried, maybe make a good sand box sand filter, that's all..

Fitted a pancake filter in with oil breather pipe

Now I feel better, one thing a VW engine will not tolerate and that's dust.

Now for the long wait for my white walls, Yes I have ordered them, and then the wheels..........

Today I fitted the NEW white glass front indicators, pity the last owner put them in the incorrect place,
But when the car gets repainted one day, we will weld up the holes, and put them in the right place....

Also greased the front suspension, Boy did it take a :bn: load of grease......

Re-aligned the doors, now they close right, without the sun sun-burning my right shoulder via the gap.

Set up the play in the clutch cable now that the engine has done a few Miles.

Topped up the steering box again with Bardall, by what a pain, it won't flow, will have to get a big syringe to pump it in, still not full, after an hour, I gave up.

Now its RWC and registration, then............

Nope... that would be tacky... I say leave it as is, or if you have to, put a original chromed beading where the beading used to be... only problem then is that the rest of the car would look odd without it.

My 5c

how about going against the grain and slam it with a chrome steely, white walls and paying attention to pinstriping similar to those on hotrods. im not sure what its called (if called anything) but a cluster of pinstriping forming a designed pattern usually on bonnet, boot, above head lamps. ucan bring this pinstriping on the dash and fan housing

were the holes for the beading filled, or is it meant to be with no beading?
if it is the latter then you have the standard spec, which is super sweet cool.

Not sure , have still to open the door cards, to fix rattles, and to fit inner wiper seals.
Will let you know, not sure if it was the STD or the de luxe, will have VIN checked some day.

Got the white walls for her today, will be fitting them ones I have reworked the rims, then these wheels can go back onto the Fastback.

Getting Beetle ready for Logo Day.

Finally did the door panels, door cards, and fitted all new clips and rubber cups into door.

Also sealed the inside door bottoms for water damage, and fitted the inner wiper seals.

Only have to get a new Clutch outer sheath, as the old one has a kink in it, not sure where I will get one, but will try Goldwargen 1st, then not sure........

What a fitting end to this thread,

The 1959 Beetle, after all the head aches, and Hart aches, and disappointment in the previous owner, the Beetle has been out to the 60 year anniversary Logo Day here in Uitenhage. ...

52 Years after coming out of the factory for the 1st time, :D it takes its 1st outing, as a proud fully functioning, good looking classic Car, to the place of its birth..... :D

This was a proud day for me, as I did press on, not being distracted by all the :bn: that was dropped on my lap, but still got it done, with one more VERY PROUD little car with a smile on its face, bringing me joy......... start of the next 52 years........

Now the Fastback will get its new lease of live.........

Then the .............

Sorry now I'm getting ahead of my self.

Got a set from some ONE  -- "Chrome domes" (guy from PE, rides a Bus, Bay window, darn, what's his name again....)

Have a set of steelies--- "black"

Have a set of White walls ---15"

Must just fit them, the wheels on the Bug are from the Fastback

Fully agree with you guys, not sure how the black will look, if not, will have to go to white. ????

What you guys say, Black Brown or White rims with Chrome domes, and white walls.?????????????????????????????????/
