Hey Brandt - glad to see you got the engine going. By all comments it looks like it was a success...!!

Am getting back on track with the bugs and will be splitting body and pan before long, and then the long haul starts... :)

Hi Dave,

Well, Everything hasn't gone right :(

I have been quiet because there is a dirty little secret....

My engine swallowed a washer

It amounted to about R6k in damages to replace a single piston as well as getting those gorgeous heads repaired.

Will be starting the engine again in about two weeks and I will phone you to come and witness as you are just around the corner. Man, I tell you nothing will motivate you like hearing this engine at full cry :hangloose: It bounces off the 7k RPM limiter

Ha - Murphy's Law is alive and well... damn!!

But at least you know that you have a good build.

Give me a shout next time you crank it up - as you say, it'll get the lust glands running.

Cheers
Dave

Hmmm, I have found that due to work commitments and two other hobbies that don't involve building anything except my expanding stomach I don't have time to work on the car. All is not lost though. I have sent the chassis in to have the front beam rebuilt and the body fitted.

At this junction in the build we have found the supporting beams to which the main suspension beam is attached might be a bit "lite" with what seems to be poor welding. I am taking the offending parts to a profesional welder for asessment next week and if he doesn't like what he sees I will have to have ALL the welds checked and re-done if necessary. That would delay the project a bit although I am cautiously optimistic I will have the car finished by the end of the year.

Photos to follow.

I found exactly the same thing with my spyder chassis, I think they have just under engineered them, Cut a long story short I cut them off and had new ones lazer cut, I used 4mm mild steel which is probably an over kill but that is the way I prefer it. I drew up the CAD files myself so shout if you want them, the same goes for other members.

O.K so finally some progress. The gearbox was remounted onto a much, much stronger mount and the engine has been trial fitted. Breaklines have been run for the rear setup. The wheel adapters are going to be re-made by someone with actual pride in their work and the body will be trial fitted just as soon as I can get the hinges from Replicarssa. Also changed were the rear shock mounts as the coils rub against the chassis.

I took a few photos, stil very bare but progress none the less.
