So we arrived back home this afternoon after two long days driving. In total we traveled 3241km during the last week, with an avg consumption of 8,7km/l. Not bad for a 30 year old bus. The 1800 engine did not miss a beat.
While we were on our way back home, we made one stop in the Cape to get Betty her Xmas present.
Can anyone notice the difference (except for the split windscreen)?

We'll start a project thread on "Ugly Betty: The Makeover" in the near future as we have some big plans in store for her.
The split also got some nice goodies which were a bit big to fit in the bus, but should make their way to GP in next week. Will post some pics when they arrive.
Thanks to SambaOwner and his seatcover for their hospitality.

While I was working my ass off in Swaziland

I decided to do something constructive, so I started installing Betty's 2nd battery controller.

Finished the installation this morning and it works beautifully!

That's a really good addition. Did you get all the fitments from a camp store ?
Must be great having the two to rely on when spending the weekend away from the madness

Bought the relay from Outdoor warehouse. Check Campworld though. I think I saw it afterwards for R80 less. I had some cable left from the Syncro's installation so I just used that and added the extra fuses for the 2 batteries' protection against faults.
The main idea of the second battery is to run all your aux equipment (fridge, entertainment etc) off it and not drain the main battery, so you are never stuck with a flat battery. Depending on the equipment the battery will last 2 days easily. Most campsites have electricity, so I hook the charger up to keep it full when we are stationary and the alternator takes care of that when moving.

fitted new spark plugs. Took car for a test drive and popped off a valve cover seal. Smoke everywhere.
Fixed seal - thank goodness for a deep sump!!!
Car running OK, but jerking at low throttle positions, I think the jets need some cleaning.

Ran 5 cables from the front to the back for my speakers and oil cooler fan. Also mounted my radio in the car finally.
Really looking forward to seeing how many Amps this fan pulls...
