Suspension!! What suspension? The only suspension travel ANGRRR has, is a minimalistic movement those fat, ultra low profile tires might give.

Jan Van Riebieks Ox wagon had a smother ride over the Cape mountains than ANGRRR has over a grain of sand....

If you want comfort ride a fat seatcover...

Yip letting air out of your tires will soften up your ride..... :)

I will give it to ChromeDome there is a huge amount of work that has gone into ANGRRR and it shows...

thanks guys

It seems with my antics with Alan on Saturday I fouled out a set of spark plugs. So today I pulled them out and then spent a bit of time online researching things.

I found this comment:
At any stage of inspection if the plugs upon removal are very clean and white along the insulator nose this would indicate that the spark plugs are reaching their upper temperature threshold and as such obviously may not withstanding the temperature at full throttle.

3 of my spark plugs are very white, so I guess I have to go for yet a colder plug. I am already 2 ranges colder than stock and will now be trying a NGK D9EA.

4agedub... what plugs do you use in your 044s on the track?


While I had relatively little to do, I decided to have a look through the plug holes at the pistons and see if I have any carbon buildup.
Well, it seems my theory of running a tight deck height has worked. I dont see any carbon and can even read the Mahle emblem on the pistons.

I use d9ea on the turbo engine and on the n/a engine. Be careful they do foul up pretty quick if the engine idles too rich. Previously I tried a set if 7's in the n/a engine but did find evidence of detonation with them

Hi tony,
As far as I remember, the Venturi bros, used the 9's in the number 3 piston, and used the 8's in the other three pistons.

Have you set up a temp, recorder on the cylinder heads as yet.

This may be the next step in getting your jetting where you want it.

you may be too lean on high rpm, and your plugs my be glowing by then

Maybe something like NGK 5238 R5671A-9 Racing Plug

What plug do you have 12mm or 14mm

Maybe have a look at better lineup of NGK to suit your engine, try these http://www.ngk.com/category.aspx?zcid=5 ... Span=0-30k

The WOT jetting isnt too bad at the moment. around 4500rpm, the AFR is 13.2:1. By 5000 it is perfect at 12.5:1 and then it leans out to 13.8:1 by 5700 and then by 6400rpm she is back at 12.5:1
So it moves around a little but its not going overly lean. I am waiting for summer before I do a bit more jetting to see how the increased air temp changes things.
#3 was one of the overly white plugs. But it was #1 or #2 that was hottest. #4 looked OK to be honest.
I have 12mm plugs

The AFR at and around idle speed is a tad rich, sitting around 13:1. I'd personally like it a bit leaner than this, but it is still pretty good.
Jetting currently is 57 Idles, F11, 155 mains and 180 airs.
I will try 55 idles at some point and possibly 170 or 175 airs (which I dont have yet) to richen up the upper end a little.

Well, another leave period at home is drawing to a close and I have nothing to report on the car.
Which is good, because it means I didnt have to work on it one bit.

I took a few people for a drive and scared them nicely (some more than others) and otherwise, I had her on the road almost every weekend while I was home. I must have done (only) about 500km, but this was 500km without worrying about the car. So I am happy.
The biggest work I did was plugging in or unplugging the battery charger and putting in fuel.

As before, the bug is an absolute riot to drive and I am loving every minute of it.

Have not had time to make any further progress on the car. I still need to work on the tuning, but as before, for now she is running well.
OK, until yesterday when a friend and forum lurker came to visit and the battery died on us while trying to start it.
Luckily I have another battery sitting in another project that I could scavenge.
New battery in and she fired right up without issues.

A slight warm up drive and then some chaos. 2 or 3 quick blasts up to 180plus, a few quick 0-100s and my first ever attempted wheel spin... 40m snake lines, bouncing the limiter at 7000rpm. Not bad for 215/45/17 tyres...
I dont like going "cowboy" but sometimes, it is needed.

Maybe our lurker will comment? Maybe a few pics of his awesome beetle project? :?:
