Re: My type 1 turbo project
Thanks 2bugme.
As callooker said, you do not need and spcialised tools to work on a beetle engine. The only tools that you do require is a proper strong arm and socket for the flywheel nut (Never compromise on tighening the flywheel nut) and a flywheel locking tool to keep the engine from turning when fastening the nut.
The rest of the tools required is quite standard.

Re: My type 1 turbo project
Hey Dubstr,
Why not just buy a cam...its much easier and the grind is the best compared to local engineering grinds....
Engel W110 0r W120 is the best for Street use. They about R2000.

Dont forget you need to do a fair bit of work to the rest of the engine to accept a 120 cam. A little less needed for a 110 cam, but its still not a straight swap.
Hijack over, open a new thread for more advice....

Re: My type 1 turbo project
I would go with cromoly pushrods, not too expensive and worth every penny.
Test drive was a bit dissapointing. The turbo's exhaust housing is too big so it only starts boosting at about 4300rpm and reaches 0.5 bar at 5500rpm.
I should be getting the parts to mod my turbo before the weekend. Now changing to a 0.48 stage 2 exhaust housing and wheel. The current one is a stage 3.

Re: My type 1 turbo project
Single Hi-rev springs are fine with stock pushrods and are not noisy like the cro-mo's

Re: My type 1 turbo project
It was pulling ok when hitting 0.5 bar. I guess the volume is still a problem, but this should be sorted when I change the exhaust housing.
