Also a spanner in the works. I put back some of the old black interior last night to check for fit and low and behold, it actually looks freaking nice with the cars colour...................bugger.

Small little update.

Had a sick day off yesterday, so like any one of us would have done,

i was in the garage.

Managed to get the rear bumper bolted down properly as well as mount the porsche dash script and drill all of the holes for the switches and new ignition. Also hooked up the wipers and a few smaller niggling things that had been bugging me. Also fitted the new battery as well so at least I can move her around now.

Waiting on the spacers for the front bumper so that I can mount that during the week and also fit the rear valance so that's one less thing to worry about.

Issues that I have right now? The dash is about 5mm thick, so the stock beetle light and wipers button won't work as the screw threaded sections that mount on the dash side are too short, so I'm going to be looking at getting 3 extra threaded sections made so that these can be mounted properly.

I have re-fitted the cars interior and it looks wow, just enough black to really set it off. I scrubbed and cleaned and I may even fit the old carpets as they're not too bad a condition either, they're only just really dirty. I'll still decide on that though. I will have to have new front door panels made as the black vinyl is cut for the later style handles.

This move would save me about R10 000 that I can spend elsewhere.

Next big thing is to get the arse of the car down about a notch or two to level it out. That as well as fit a new steering dampener should sort out the front.

Considering that. When we removed them, we were careful not to tear them, just in case I wanted to use them again.

Got something in the mail yesterday from the US, this was one item that I was worried about because I took the just send it option from the ebay seller instead of the tracking option. Price on it was $20 with $3 shipping, if I would have taken the tracking option it would have been $13 for shipping, so I took a chance.

Image

This gets mounted on the passenger side of the car on the front quarter panel. Only one gets mounted, (don't ask me why). I like symmetry, so I don't know how long this will last.

Image

Still waiting on my step plates for the side so that i can go ahead and re-fit the carpets, but I doubt that will be here by the weekend.

Also have to dremmel the back of my dash to get the spots/ lights and windscreen wipers switches mounted as the dash is 5mm thick and the screws won't reach............this is going to be fun.

And finally.......the back is coming down a notch.

Stay tuned.

Same with the Karmann badge - also only one side. Assuming the Speedster is originally LHD from a country that drives on the right side of the road, at least it will be visible to pedestrians if parked parallel to the pavement! (And all the slower traffic vehicles you past)

We could also assume the driver does indeed know the heritage of his car, so that he does not need to be reminded of it everytime he gets into it?

Kinda makes me think of the old joke - Why does a cop car have a star on the door? So that the cop knows where to get in.

Why doesn't the rear door have a star? 'Cause the police dog already knows where to get in!

Just about to order some more stuff from Jim at Klasse356.

Reutter chassis badge as well as the Reutter paint badge as well.

Image

Image

I've also ordered the made in germany chassis badge as well as the dash mounted Meister Schaft (sp) to top it off.

Image

Image

While on the dash I've gone for an original grab handle and the buiders warehouse stuff just wasn't going to cut it.

Image

And also some small rubbers and bushes to finish things off.

All in all my order is probably about R1000-00 shipping included.

I can finally pick up my cam shaft and solid lifters on Friday so that's one less thing I have to worry about.

Your level of detailing is simply insane

I can't wait to see the car this weekend :)

I'm assuming that the camshaft is for the Type 4. Who did you have it done by?

I worked it out a while ago, the basic speedster that replicars sells even with thier expected trim package is missing small trinkets to the amount of about R20 000 to get them to the US level.

I can't wait to drive the car this weekend..........still have a lot to do on Friday and Saterday in order to get it there.

Yup..Van der linde did it.

Finally a half decent picture of the car with the bumpers and trim on. This is the best that I got at cars in the park, if anyone else got any, please share.....

Image

This Friday I'm driving her to work and on the way home am stopping for a mini-photo-shoot at the union building with an arty farty student friend of mine and a high dollar camera.............should finally get some nice pictures of her.

Also got to see a real speedster and I was a bit unimpressed to say the least. I mean it was wow and all that, but when a replica is done to a high standard, I can't see you having more fun in the real thing........lol.

Image

The funny thing that I noticed was the meister schaft badge and the reutter badge on this car were repo's, I know because mine are the same and to top it off, the badge on the front quarter was just stuck with double sided tape and not rivets.
