IIRC, the rear side vents are for flow through the interior of the car. Air comes in, in the front, and goes out the little grill vents on the side of the rear window(inside the car), then out the vents on the outside. I am actually doubting myself now, so dont quote me on this...

Don't stress about those vents behind the windows, the early beetles didn't even have them and plus the car looks smoother without.
With removing the vent below the window you remove the cool air going to the back of the fan shroud. A stepped up boot lid helps, but it's not even close to being as good as leaving the OE vent there. You'll get air in the engine bay, but because it's not sealed off like it would be with the lid closed properly with a seal, it's going to hotter in there.
Besides that, very nice work, you have great skills..............

that takes balls.............what type of support of you going to give them on the inside of the fenders? Cause everyone that I've seen that doens't have support cracks after a while.

its still bolted with the original bolts on the inside and welded on the outside.

I hope you made sure you shift rod bush is 100%, because you have now closed off the opening to remove the shift rod. (round opening under the bonnet handle on the front valance)

well actually calooker, i didnt even think about that. but if it does seem to cause a problem ill just open it fix it and close it again.
