Use 2 seperate relays, one that runs the pump from the starter solenoid wire and the other from the oil pressure sender.
The moment you turn the key to start the pump runs of terminal 87 of relay one and the moment you got oil pressure ie the light goes out the second relay runs the pump ie the relay 2 cuts out and the pump runs on terminal 87a. No oil pressure no fuel pump running which is the safest way.

Dawie is correct with the fuel pump relay running off the coil neg, but I've had some serious issues finding these relays in Cape Town. To the point that I am looking at buying them overseas now.
I bought a few in the past, but for the last 2 years, I havent found 1.
Guys like GHS have on order. Always on order, never in stock...

Sheeet fuys,.....Iam. Earing a stroke here ...!!!

Ok Dawie's Ktronic relay is difficult to source,...will try but it does'nt sound good,....still like this one BUT

Tony your circuit with the "87A" relay is then option B,.....butnow youcorrect yourself and tell me that pin 86,...which is earthed,....are now to go to a power source pin 30 ?,.or to instrument lighting source...to me it does'nt make any sense ?

Look I know you guys must be gettiing gatfol by now,...but I have to understand what I am doing,....please help.

Much appreciated. HAans

Haans, Maybe this will make it moor clear and help,

Just note that its a 5 pin rely and you use the Normally closed contacts which are marked as 30 & 87a

86 & 85 are the coil
87 not used

When I first wrote it, I thought the power source was coming up with wire to the light. But then was corrected and I remembered that the wire goes to the oil pressure switch to ground.
So you use the wire to ground and supply a power source. (I originally had it so I'd use the wire for power and then add a ground).

Ok,....here goes the 4th attempt to reply to you all
1st of all ,...thank you to all of you for taking the time,....and patience to try an explain or put to schematics ,......a double bells to you all,......I am on the bottom half of it myself !! Out of frustration of not getting what is put to me.
However,...
Herman,..thanks for your drawing,..I get your layout and will study it further.

Blitzkrieg,...glad youtold me,....will enquire this week,....that setup seems the easiest to put in place!....with the cut-off valve.

Will keep you posted of progress

Jip ! I am back !! Got all important bits

Image
Dawie,...eventually got a substitute relay,..see, can share part number if not visible enough

Image

Question to Dawie and Herman,...or anyone that deems himself knowledgable
The "drawing" or sketch ! I have made according to what was originally supplied via Dawie from Tony,.......
Question "A" added a prime button,....to the line from ign to point 15 on relay,....is this correct ?

Question B1 and B2,....line from ign to pin 15 on relay ?,......why can't I run it as depicted from the line from ignition to coil 15 as depicted,....ie cut B2 and use B1
Responses will be appreciated,......l believe it will be fine ,...but ! I would appreciate confirmation
Regards. Haans

Perfectly fine, whats easy for you as it will depend where you fit the relay in the car.

Great buy

This relay should switch on for a few seconds when ignition switch is turned on but not turning starter. After a few seconds of not receiving pulses from points, it should switch off. Turning off ign and switching it on again should repeat the process again for a few seconds.
So doing this a few times should help to prime the carb. No priming switch needed depending on how long that specific relay's on time is. It may be around 3 seconds.
In a beetle or ghia application maybe best to mount fuel pump in front lower than lowest part of tank. (Gravity fed). Otherwise it may battle to prime if it sucks air.

Good to use that cutoff valve with the rotary Huco pump. Once tested by blowing through pumps... The rotary Huco would simply let through some fuel all the time even when switched off. An old Facet (clacking type), had a little resistance in its valves, so did not pass throug fuel if gravity difference small.

Original mechanical pumps were designed to block fuel when not pumping. However there is a procedure to follow when rebuilding them or screws of top part were loosened, otherwise this blocking feature gets disabled. Think one must apply air pressure to outlet while re-tightening upper cover, or something like that.
This was so that fuel do not drain into engine if beetle was parked against steep uphill for a long time.

"Ign on" trigger for the relay could be taken anywhere from the "ign on" line. That line is marked "15" everywhere it goes, there is a "15" id mark on ign switch and ign coil. You could even take it from back of speedo where it feeds the warning lights. Colour code for that wire is black.
One get these adaptor spade terminals. It fits on the male spade lug, and have a side where the old wire can go, plus a place for your wire. That way no cutting is necessary.

Thats the same wire, if you fit the relay under the dash then connect direct to ing sw.

If you put the relay in the engine compartment with the fuel pump and shut off valve then go from your coil + 15

Hope this helps
