A lot of the early splits were painted Dove Blue. I was'nt aware that the factories were still using that colour for the last splits. I agree, it is a nice colour

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

We love it, so want to get her back to it, just a case of whether we do full Dove Blue or two tone with a White? And then the interior as well...

Another thing you could do that ive seen on the samba and I think Fig has done it aswell, is using scotchbrite pads (I think its scotchbrite pads?) and going back to the original paint and then buffing it out for a patina'd look.

G'luk with the rest of the build, sure its gonna turn out to be one hell of a bus. :D

By the way, think around 66-67 Uitenhage used a slightly different dark blue. Not sure what it was called. Nearly the same as the earlier Dove Blue, just with a bit less gray in it. Not sure exactly when it was introduced. Both colours looks nice.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Roadhawg started this, but it is a massive amount of work and we have some bad rust spots that will need to be fixed properly, so not sure we will go down this route...

Thanks bud, taking it slowly, but we do things properly and in line with history and heritage, so she should be great...

Cool - We still trying to figure out for sure what the colour is, but looking at other similarly coloured buses, we love it and want to stick to it...

This last weekend Roadhawg and I decided to stop delaying the inevitable and get stuck in to stripping our bus, starting on the inside so we could see what...

This is all the crap we pulled out the interior including carpeting, wooden under floor, side panels, insulation, etc.

Image

After pictures of the interior...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

A lot of the floor had fibreglass patches everywhere, like this...

Image

Which covered a lot of this...

Image

Image

Image

Image

And then we moved on to the rocker panels which had massive amounts of fiberglass and filler...

Image

Revealing this...

Image

It is shocking the piss poor 'restoration' work that is done out there...

A bit more work inside our bus, cutting out the current floor which is very patchy in places full of fibreglass, filler, steel wool, etc. Lots of fun but a bit nerve wracking, lots of work to do, the spot welds holding the flooring in place are going to be a bitch to remove...

Lots and lots of this...

Which started this...

Image

Which turned in to this...

And finally this...

Some tools used...
