How do i find out the original colour?
You either need to check the tag somewhere, it should have a L with some numbers or else purchase a birth certificate for your beetle, obtainable from VW Germany (see this thread here
http://www.aircooledvwsa.co.za/viewtopi ... ertificate )
The birth certificate includes information such as color, interior color, where is was made etc and also if any accessories were added as factory option.
Then you can check the colors here and also what paints to mix to match them...

No one can make use of the colour code Lxxx so feel free to post. Do what you want but if you want some ideas, have a look at "Bobbie's" Project thread below. I did the same as you, asked all the questions, people posted ideas and then I did what I thought was right.
I'm over the moon with the results and I think most agree that she's as good now as when she came out the showroom. I basically stayed with VW original colours and interiors patterns but mixed the years around. For example she is L324 Polar Silver a 55 to 57 colour and interior is orginal red (can't remember the name) but the pattern is original 63 layout.

I think all beetles look great in black, especially splits and ovals.
