shouldnt hit the shafts. It looks like it clears, but I will only find out once the gbox is back in for sure.
Having issues figuring out how to run the oil pipes, that will have to wait until both the engine and gbox are in place.
Hopefully the gbox will be in tomorrow.

Tony, Um, its better to blow through the cooler than to suck through it. Even the Guys i bought my cooler from said rather blow than suck and they were specialist cooler suppliers. But that Brace is looking good though. What you might want to consider as well is making a little deflector plate to scoop air up and onto the cooler, i find my fan runs permanently now, so i need to make the deflector. or get some of that flexible silver pipe and make an air scoop and have that supply air to the cooler.

I also had a thought about the oil cooler system. you not going to be at the KKK camp out? would be interesting to discuss...

Ps, where did you put your thermoswitch? inlet or outlet?

Why would you not locate the cooler at the front? Is it due to the length of piping required?

ask your specialist guys when they install a fan before the heat exchanger.... in short, you dont. Why?? You suck up something and then shove it at high velocity into the cooler core and viola, no more cooler. Unless I am mistaken, the fans on pretty much every car I can think of sits behind the radiator, sucking air through it.
But then again, I only work with the equipment and dont consider myself a specialist, yet every system I have seen that is designed by a company that will stand behind their products will put the fan after the heat exchanger.

Deflector already made up, need the oil pipes and gearbox installed before I can fit it.

The thermoswitch is going in after the thermostat on the way back to the engine.

Wont be at KKK, but will be in JHB for 2 weeks after it.

Too much oil to pump, too much pumping losses and where to route the pipes. Remember the oil coming out of the cooler will be a lot colder than the oil coming out of the pump and any bend causes a pressure reduction as does any length of pipe or hose. Plus then you only have cooling when you are moving, and I cant have that as I am removing the stock oil cooler.
Also dont want the car to look crappy with a cooler hanging over the nose or front scoops.

I have read biggest problem with oil cooler in the front is over cooling.

This was quite a big topic in the VW mags of the 80's

Suicyde is now buggered

Well its official, Suicyde is now Buggered.

Anyway... my updates...

Making slow progress. Working alone takes its time and moral support can be lacking at times.
Gearbox is now in. All gbox braces are now installed - kaefer cup brace, mid-mount for nosecone support and bellhousing strap. Getting these items on properly wasnt a laughing matter. The final fitting of the bellhousing strap and the kaefer cup brace took close on 3 hours (and there was only 2 bolts to line up and fit and do the final length adjustments on the Kaefer cup brace).
Gears have been tested - a little tough to get into, but i am sure it will be easier once they wear in a little.
Real wheel bearings have been put in.
Axle boots are on, but not secured. I am having serious issues getting them to fit properly and ran out of patience today.

Plans for tomorrow (if time allows) is to seal the axle boots and fit the rear hubs and brakes. Also to convert the hubs to accept wheel studs instead of bolts.

You have so much patience you are an inspiration to us all. 3 hours for 2 bolts!

If things go well tomorrow with getting the Beetle police cleared and roadworthy I will see if I can pop into give a little moral support! :D

Ahhh, that oil cooler is so cute and small!!!

Seriously, did I miss the info of where you bought it? The oil cooler I installed years ago on the Fastback is bigger than that(on top of the gearbox with EVERYTHING still in the car. FFS, did I struggle to get in there      )

Things look good. Here is the morla support "Keep at it buddy!" :hangloose:

That *edit* Kaefer *edit* brace, is it ally?

Looking Good Z.

While you still here you may want to swop those urethane mounts. They Crap (break).

If you have power and want to launch hard you looking for a set of Rhino Mounts. Dave R can help you.
