Now thats an interesting point. Firstly Dave Rowley had to skim the rear discs to 8mm (his normal practice on solid discs) and secondly I had to grind off 1 to 2mm from the brake pad to get them to fit. But I dont think its the rears. I will strip the front tommorrow and check the calipers as they are from my 86 golf 1, which by the way I didnt sell.

When you go buy pads, let them check in the back of the book. You'll find the pic there of the pads, match it up,then cross reverence it to the thinner pad(normally from a ventilated disc).

Hope it helps.

I am not brake expert by any means... I believe that brakes should be done by a pro - like you can find an honest one... anyway

my guesses

Do you have air in the system after you have gone thru that routine? It might be that the caliper cylinder seals are getting old. The prob can hold the pressure but then released, under the slight vac that is made, it may be leaking air into the system.

You might also find that you have a blockage in the pipe leading to that caliper.

Do you have both front brakes on the same pressure side of the master cylinder?

While you are battling with this, have you changed your brake fluid? Its as good a time as any

I would personally replace all the seals in the caliper just to be on the safe side

Pipes to the caliper are all new. That is the hoses. The front brass/copper pipes have not been changed. What I do find strange is the arrangement of the pipes coming out of the master cylinder (and I doubt if this is the problem). There are 3 pipes coming off the cylinder. the left goes to left front. The top goes to the right front and the right one goes to the rear. Although I cant see if it would make a difference. I have used about 4 litrs of brake fluid trying to get the brakes to work this past week, so it must be all fresh in the system. As I said I will check the calipers tommorrow. I would imagige golfwagen can assist with parts needed.
