Well after issue and issue with both the website and small niggly things on my car.

I have an update for you guys. A lot has happened in the last few weeks, the car is already sprayed, 90% of the trim has been polished and already put back on the car. The rear lights, bumper as well as new wiring harness has been laid throughout the whole car. As well as a new fuse box as the one under the dash was both a total bitch to get to if a fuse ever did blow as well as so crusty, it was begging for a wire related fire to happen.

The night she came back home, towed by Willem. It took a little over two weeks to spray the car, working on weekends only. The paint is not 100%, I mean what do you expect for R2200-00, but I'd put it at about 90%. There are a few very small isuues that need to be sorted out once the car is finished, but they are so small, no-one would really notice.

Image

Bumpers wrapped up inside, one one had to be repaired and reinforced for the new brackets to be mounted. At this stage believe it or not, she still drives. Allbeit with the a very dodgy wiring harness.

The next day was a public holiday at my work (canada day) so I had an extra day to start cracking as well as two days leave after that, so I had 3 days to get working on the car, drilling out rivets and marking where badges and scripts are going to go. The scripts have been a bloody nightmare and I ordered OEM porsche stuff which was made for stock thickness steel/ ali. Not 4-5mm fibreglass, so I ended up going to BMW and getting some grommets as well as some really strong double sided tape that mounts them just that little bit more.

Took some quick pics the next morning, this colour is flat out WOW. Porsche Ivory L505 and man it's a classic looking colour. I didn't want something that other people would use and this colour is a bit boring to many, but with the trim in place it really looks like the real deal.

The interior looks great. The gauges will have to wait to be refurbished, but they all at least work now 100% and I can easily remove them to clean and detail them later down the line. The main thing now is to get the car running again and to get work done on my motor.

Some mroe trim going back on. I just had to mount the side speedster badge to see what it looked like with the paint and the chrome trim remounted. The rims and hubcaps need to be polished out again and the tyres need to be coated with my secret black compound that I scored, but once that's done it'll really stand out.

Image

The trim looks great with this colour, the contrast with the chrome, gold and the paint of the car just make it look so much better than if it was red or silver or black. I was a bit worried as two of my scripts are silver and I thought that it wouldn't stand out. No need to worry about that it seems. Here you can see how nice the paint on the car really is. Once again I can really recommend this guy to anyone. Bear in mind my car was 100% stripped when it went to him and Willem had repaired pretty much all of the niggly spots, and that counted for a LOT. I'm stilling in the process of making two small trim peices that go behind the door handles on each side, but with me not having the car back yet, I can't do anything, the trim on the door has been notched so that it slots into the front of the door handle. Very slick looking.

Image

Day one on the car was actually spent cleaning it and rubbing out one or two paint runs, both behind the bumpers that would never get noticed anyway, but it bugged me. Day two I organised with Dirk to tow it to his shop so that he could start work on the wiring and so that i could start the long process of polished out all of the trim and bright work.

As the car is at the moment.

The list of things to do isn't that much anymore. But the main things have been done. Window was cleaned and put back it, this was a huge concern as I had this thing stashed in the top of a cupboard at home with the frame and the trim, worried about it getting broken. And at almost R3000 for a replacement, I'm sure that you can see why.

After the window was cleaned, the frame was polished up again and man it came out nice. Total bitch to polish on a bench polisher, but it ended up very nice and all of the small knicks and scratches are now gone. I ended up reusing the old frame rubber as I just couldn't get another one, but I'll keep my eye out as to remove the window took all of 10 minutes, now that we know what has to come loose in order to do it.

Almost all of the trim is polished and back on the car. The rocker trim was the most rewarding as it really sets off the car with the belt trim.

As I said before, the wiring harnes is done or about 90% done, Dirk was just busy doing a few extra's out back and making the new harness longer in certain places as my ignition is going to moved to the dash as well as an extra light switch for the new spotlights.

The big thing that still has to be done is the front beam, We have a local chap who's going to Co2 it for us, but Dirk has to be there to make sure it's done correctly and at the moment, the man is just so busy with running his shop, hopefully this is done in the next day or two. As I really need the car back by the weekend to do the last of the trim on the car as well also fitting the rear valence and fitting the engine compartment rubber. The Merlin express boomer exhaust is also coming off and the one that I got from fig will be fitted by the time I get her back.

The car will be at cars in the park at the end of the month, but it will be without no interior as all my money now is going into the engine parts that are still outstanding, cams, cam followers, rings and a few other nitty gritty items.

I'm looking at the moment for an interior guy to do me up some coco-style mats and if all goes well, hopefully these will at least be in the car by the end of the month. ( I hope)

It seems that my car will be bringing some parts along to the park.

Pine - Reflectors (still want them)?
Vuyo - bug tank and front bullet turn signals and lens assembly?
Pierre - CD player and shuttle.

Am I missing anyone here?

Stay tuned..............more to come this week.

If you're going to be at Cars In the Park on the 3rd of August, could you please bring me that indicator knob (that's if you still have it  )

Your car is looking very, very nice mate. You really went all out on the detailing :)

Already packed in the box dude.......it's the hazard knob by the way. I'll be at the park with the VW sport beetle/ bus club and also at Ferdi's deal later in the month.
