so the wife just went for her 1st drive in a bug. She's only 5.1 on a good day, so needless to say I was a bit worried about this. Moving the seat forward as much as possible, she climbed in and I clenched my fists in prep.

Crunch, grind, "who the f#Ck designed this brake pedal??", hang on, where's 2nd?, aah bollocks why am I hitting reverse???

We got there in the end, but I think that we might need to take this old girl up to Bugger for some work on the gearbox. She has to be able to drive it well, so this is a slight setback.

Bugger, start prepping me a box asseblief

I too remember the feeling when Ol' Betty became MINE & LEGAL aftr l had driven her for 6 months on po disc.

Now dont repeat this to any one, but my wc is running on a friends plate & disc while l am waiting for Bloem to re-introduce her into the system. What are the chances of being picked up on the road that l am running on a friends plate? car are identical, just that his is currently under surgery.

In true road trip fashion, we decided to head on up to Pavillion Shopping centre in Durbs, to see what she's like on the highway...

Noisy, that bloody gearbox is a pain in the ass, but a cool ride and big smile moment.

Thanks for all the support, it's been appreciated. Now onto the van

I guess this is a fitting place to announce the end.

The new engine is nearly ready and she's about to have her wooden steering wheel fitted. It will be back into the paint shop for some touch ups (where twats damaged the car in a supermarket) and then she's going up for sale.
We are leaving SA and the '59 won't be coming back with me.

It's sad but I really hope I can sell her to someone here who wants an utterly amazing car that doesn't stop turning heads. I cannot tell you how many times people walk up to me to have a chat about it, talk about their old bugs and generally love looking at her.

I'm worried about the sale, seeing as the market here is a little flat when it comes to the older bugs.
