I had a look at the inverter chargers with solar function and nice features but they are pricey. My ideal would be a system like that, they change over and can be programmed accoring to load power, solar etc but not worth it at the moment unless you have R10K to R30K to spend without solar panels and installation.
I think the most cost effective for small loads and load shedding is a UPS and you could buy a bigger one if needed.
