Verimark can sell anything. It filters the dust through water. Works well actually.

Dawie wrote:Nice project. Looks like the type 181 is probably the easiest VW to convert from lhd to rhd. (Dashboard easy, pedal cluster and maybe steering box arm from rhd beetle). Then it would be a 182.
I am in two minds about it? What do the forum think?

Heron asked: "I am in two minds about it? (Convering to RHD). What do the forum think?"

Having owned a LHD car before, (eventually sold it and bought a RHD one), this is what i think.

At 5am on a sunday morning on a deserted road , driving a "wrong-hand" car may be nice. But that is sadly where this niceness ends.

Try swiping a card at a parking garage, or pass through a toll gate. Out of frustration, i have turned the car around and reversed through. Do'nt expect the cops to be impressed with that stunt.
During peak traffic, you have no view to be able to select the best moving lane.
I once nearly had a head-on collision.

Personally, on a car that easy to change, i would not think twice. Worldwide, many lhd "Things" were made, but only a handful were rhd. Some purists may argue about the id plate still saying 181 instead of 182, but i am not one of them.

By the way, later beetles had a wider spaced pedal cluster than earlier ones. Early types had the clutch pedal close to the brake pedal, to leave space for the floor-mounted dim-bright switch. This close mounted pedal assembly still continued for a few years after the dim-bright switch moved to steering column. Eventually they increased spacing of the clutch pedal. Your last picture shows the nicer-to-drive (for those who do not have small feet), wide spaced type.

Thank you Dawie for the input. I don't think i will have the skills to take it back to original spec. Just too many parts missing. I may spend a small fortune to get to 99% and then there will still be someone who finds some mistake and shoot it down in value so my idea is to create a "nice" car that o can enjoy. 2 votes RHD so far...

What do you think? White with black top or cream with brown top?
