Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Re: 1970 deluxe sunroof bay
Hallo
So it seems the time is almost there, to bring my bus back home from the panel shop. They have few places to blend in and need to buff and then its time!!
Here is some pics My back lenses were in bad shape and faded and after a long search for good second hand deluxe lenses, i decided to redo them myself.
Bought glass paint.(amber and red) and applied a lot of layers, giving it time to dry. That was the easy part. The 3 colours are actually on the inside of lens and after numerous times of trying the get silver edge right, i decided to apply the silver on the outside of lens. I plastic primed it and had some silver left from my bakkie, so sprayed it on and sprayed clear lacquer over the lens.
Its not perfect but only cost me R100!!
On the left of pic is extra lenses that were in the same condition as mine. I think it looks good - what do you guys think??!!

Re: 1970 deluxe sunroof bay
Hi
So i took her for roadworthy and she made it!!!!
Got the tax disk and is now total road legal!
I must say it feels good not to drive illegal anymore. Now its just the insurance that im struggling with. They only want to insure the kombi for R6000. Where can i find a person that can give me a valuation certificate witch doesnt cost a arm and a leg??
Here is some pics at the test station.

Re: 1970 deluxe sunroof bay
Beautiful vehicle Try taking it to one of the VW specialist workshops and ask them to give you a written valuation. I'm guessing R 70 000 upwards for your Deluxe...I wish I had the time to do these kind of thorough restorations on my kombi's...

Nixon,
stunning Kombi, you must be super pleased man.
As per the last thread that Tony posted, there's a chap called Chris V D Merwe of Puma Insurance. I took on my Speedster with no issues, and I've just added the Kombi as well. They provider their value, but if you want it covered for more, they offer that cover at a slightly higher premium.
Try him.
