Got them from Volkspares, wouldn't advise though, been told that with the flexing of the car cracks will develop around the joins, if only there were steel ones62vwbeetle wrote:Love it - where did u get the split window insert ????

Re: 1973 Bug Restoration/modification
I don't think that I would of filled the vents at the back as those actually push cool air behind the engine where the fan is, it may not make a huge diffs but from prior experience, you're going to be looking at a very dirty engine bay in no time.
I do however like the ideas......
You didn't think to close off the gas filler and do the fill up in the front?

The rear vents were closed as there were three coats of different colour paint, around the grill and above the vents, to avoid adding to the we cut out the grills, closed the vents and added 'stepouts' to the engine lid hingers.
The dirt is unfortunately unavoidable but can be cleaned.
The gass filler is practical with the latch and release.
I liked the overall shape of the oval and split but wanted some practicality and bling thus the following:-
Chrome engine trims
CSP exhuast
Porsche seats in biscuit leather
JSC short shifter
Dropped front beam
Front discs
Roll up seatbelts
Sound Deadening
Plush carpets
Califonia look front headlights
Snow flake tail lights
Harley davidson rear indicators
Bumpers with overhangers
One piece windows (bad choice)
and too many small items to mention had it not been for this forum and members like you , I would have spent a fortune more without a clue as to why.
Everyday I fall more in love with my bug and my only fear is (sorry stole this from another member) 'My wife will sell it for what I tell her I paid'

Re: 1973 Bug Restoration/modification
Kudos to the ideas though, I like seeing a fresh looking bug every now and then. Never too late to pull out the 1 piece windows. My old car had them and I just switched them back to the 2 piece. The only thing missing was the welded in section between the inner and outer panels. 1 piece windows are garbage IMHO.
good luck and vasbyt.

Re: 1973 Bug Restoration/modification
Hi all, its been a busy weekend, work done over the weekend.
Running boards, gravel guards, mirrors, windows, beadings and dropping of the rear suspension.
Definately need a longer weekend.
Will post more as we complete.

I do really like that colour! The more I look at her, the more I notice the subtle changes

You welcome buddy, Just keep up the good work.
Can not wait for the full reveal when all is done.
You definitely need to bring it to George Show in Feb.
See you there....
