Aircooled VW South Africa

Hi guys.
New to this forum.
In December I bought a VW double cab that I am currently fixing. Front and rear suspension all redone. Motor runs nicely. Unfortunately it is not the original motor and has been converted.

I have tried to decipher the VIN number but don't seem to be getting it correct.
Anybody able to assist me please.

M7974 76/67
2632 181 208/4

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 1973 double cab, according to the VIN:
2 = type2
6 = pick-up
3 = 1973

There's not much more that anyone can tell from the VIN plate. VWSA has no records.

@Dawie has made some progress deciphering some of the other info. For example, 67 on the middle line likely refers to brown vinyl upholstery.
