So today the battle starts.Me against the rust. Luckily there are not too much of that. Equipped with a inverter welder and 2 mm vitamax rods, I don't think it will be easy pickings, but do-able. This will just be to have the bug look better. Will do a proper resto when my bus is finished. Will post pics on the progress tonight.

Hi Guys and Gals,
Here is a quick update on my progress on what I call "Battle of the rust"

Before the battle started. Not looking too bad, until you start scratching under the surface
IMG-20120408-00105.jpg
Looks like a piece of fibre glass coming loose.
IMG-20120409-00109.jpg
after ripping it off.
IMG-20120409-00110.jpg
Cut a replacement panel.
IMG-20120409-00111.jpg
Cut out the cancer.
IMG-20120409-00112.jpg
Welded it in. Grinded everything nice and flat, and smoothed out with a thin layer of body filler.
IMG-20120409-00125.jpg
Careful inspection! Okay the rest of the rust got the same treatment. Here are some random pics of my progress so far.

Made some good progress today. Started assembling the bug. Now you get a good idea of what the end result will be. Not a perfect sprayjob, but I am planning a off the pan resto in two years time. Will detail the rims in charcoal and silver for know until I can send the set of Sprintstars for refurbishing.

Only problem is that I stay on a farm with a really crappy gravel road. But I will see what I can do!

You stay on a farm and you've painted your cabbie black?
You've done some good work so far though. I had a black street baja waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the beginning, car looked great when it was clean, pity about the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day though. Sterkte.

I know the colour choice is a bit hectic. But as I work away from home I will only drive it on week-ends. Will sacrifice a bit of sleep on Saturday morning to keep it clean.
