Ive swopped my 1.8 golf motor for a complete 1.7 type 4 with complete fi system. Will this with standard tin fit in my late bay dc? Ferdi.

Can I make it fit into a T14? With original T4 tin, I mean. And if not, why not?

I know about the flywheel, I have a T1 flywheel.

Type 1 flywheel won't work on a Type 4 :?

Some cutting would be involved but I don't know the specifics.
You could always try an IMPI shroud.

There is a difference in the left rear tinware area. Think you could use a piece from a late baywindow engine there. Underneath that is where the compressor for the optional factory airconditioning goes. On the baywindow, the tinware is higher there (to make space for a bigger optional compressor.)

If fitted, the aircon was driven by a belt that ran in a hidden position between engine block and fan housing.

Have seen pictures in overseas magazines of t14 Karmann ghias with T4 with standard flat cooling system. Cannot remember how much space there was left between fan inlet and engine lid. Will have a look through old Hotvw/ VwTrends issues, will take time, (Have 2 boxes full of these magazines).
Would be nice if the outer mating tinware could be cut out of a T4 car and fitted to the T14 KG.

By the way i had a 412LE fuel injected engine (80 hp) in my beetle back in 1977. Used standard flat cooling fan. Had to do a lot of cutting to make it fit. Used the fan cooling air intake funnel from a 412 sedan to scoop air from above,to prevent hot used air to enter. The engine lid could not close fully, but fitted over the intake air funnel, to help keep used hot air away from intake.

Besides which engine. Will any mechanic be able to fit a Type 4 Engine into a Type 1. I want a good Type 4 Engine (Don't even know where and what to look for) in my Type and don't know anyone who can do it yet? Price is a concern too by the way...

the conversion alone will prob cost you more than the T1 engine overhaul... and thats without buying the T4 engine and getting it overhauled... whats your budget?
