Bastardising your ACVW with a watercooled or any other motor, is only for Okes who dont know how to make decent power from their ACVW engines, or who dont know how to drive their aircooled engines.

Like I always say to one of my club mates: His Beetle with a Golf 2 litre engine, is a Golf engine with a beetle body around it...

if you wanna get a Golf, buy a Golf, wanna get a Suby, get a Suby...

My plans is for it into a buggy?so how is that a real vw?its a bastard...we all know it cost alot more to make that power out of a acvw motor...just ask tony what has your motor cost to build?and believe me i love the idea of a acvw motor with big power but it cost big bucks so some people go this route just to fullfill their need for speed...

I can understand why people steer away from the air cooled engine, it's not cheap to rebuild.
If you ever upgrade a AC motor ie: bigger cam, pistons etc, you are easily going to throw R15000 at it, so a scooby conv. at R16000 don't sound that bad at all, considering the power & reliability gain it's a damn good option. If I look at what I spent on my 2232cc motor I'm already on my 3rd scooby conversion
Dude down the road from me was quoted, R11600 to rebuild a T4 for his transporter, he decided to go the wc route and fitted a Toyota motor, everything included for less than R10000 and includes a 12 month warantee.

Yeah right on calooker i mean you deal with the parts...just the pistons and sleeves cost almost the same as the scubby complete motor the there is the heads you need to make the power,the crank,the ingnition system,the massive carbs or just as expensive fuel injection conversion,the valvetrain,the cam and then all the machining and extra mods you have to just i hope of making nearly or just as much power as one of these motors in stock form...and for what?just to 'bmw driver:shit what you got in there? acvw driver: nah stil the 'original' bug motor'....those few word cost you 10s of thousands of rands more to say than it would with a subby,because it would become null and void anyway when you tell the guy you spent 80k on the motor...Nah 180 odd kw from a motor in stock form that sounds like a bug motor and rumor has it originates from a acvw motor anyway (first subbys were rear engined air cooled flat 4 motors) is not going to give sleepless nights at all...Thats all im going to say.

Lets get this thread back on topic...blitzs question was how much does a conversion cost...16 k from buggy shop...now what would be cool to know is what exactle their 'kit' entails i.e. What do you get for 16k?'72 if youre ever there again couldnt you find out for us?im not always in pta so kinda hard to get to them....

Whoa guy's, just had a chat with Jaquess from VW Trends, he reckons the conversion he does is more towards 22 - 25 K

Doesn't vw trends include front disks and something else? I'd only use them for a rotary conversion though (which they do quite nicely if you check his orange beetle in front of the reception area)

If I remember correctly the R16 K price tag was for a 1800cc carb fed flat 4 Subaru motor R25 K was for the 2L EFI turbo, something like that.
I was at a parts supplier the other day and he was putting together a set of custom steel manifolds for a 2L Scooby motor to run oval track, no turbo or EFI, with 44 IDF's now that is something I would run in a bug
What I was was shocked to find was that the template he made for the adapter plate was made out of a piece of laminated shutter board good luck with that one ,supose we all need to start somewhere

Yeah a monster n/a subby would be awesome there is a guy on stf who did it with a 2.2l subby...looks awesome looks like one of those pro drag bugs without tinware on it looks so at home in a bug...that thing does 12 sec 400m passes...i think vw sold out on our beloved flat 4 motors,by putting in audi motors,i applaude subaru for looking at there aircooled flat 4 and scheming nah we dont need a new type motor we will just make this design better which they did...when i look at a scubby motor i think to myself that it should have had vw emblems all over it anyway '72 it would be greatly appriciated...need to start at a point if we want to make this dream a reality....

Didnt mean to ask you personally wat it cost that your own bussines..but you know it wasnt cheap...you just have to surf cb performances site and likes to se what just parts are going to cost you alone...sorry if i may have offended you....
