How sure are you that it didnt come from the factory like that?Iv seen pics of something that looks alot like that on a forum once.......could it be?

The pic you saw was most likely of a Wolfsburg built Beetle panelvan built while the British were running the factory in the immediate post-war period, around 1945, and which was most likely a once-off.

Panelvan conversions for Beetles were available in kit form in the US in the 70s and early 80s. One such kit was called the Vandetta; I think Volkspares sold them locally. I must say this one is the nicest one I've ever seen.
