Yes, that indentation appears on Fleetline and Brasilia rear hatches. But it first appeared on German buses in 1961 and continued until the arrival of the wide rear hatch for the 64 model year in 8/63.Ron&Gill wrote:Notice the little Fleetline indentation above the rear cargo door handle.

Re: Motor Home
From my 1 book.
'The sliding door, an optional extra on the T1, was now fitted as standard'. I looked through all the options and couldn't find any other doors.
The later bays produced in Brazil had no sliding doors.

Re: Motor Home
There is a host of picture in this book of the 1986 vw brazil type 2 kombi range (the bay split hybrid or whatever its called, dc,sc & panel) and they all have side doors not sliding ones. This was the range which used components from t1's and t2's untill 1997 when they introduced a new model. This refers to brazil vw
Here are some pics I managed to dig up.

After these they had a bay with a slightly raised roof and they stopped using t1 parts

And then his watercooled friend

I might be wrong this is just what I understand from what I have read

Re: Motor Home
According to David Eccles "VW Transporter and Mocrobus Specification Guide 1950 - 1967":
The sliding door option became available on 16 Apr 1963.
In SA, from 76, the Fleetline took on the Bay front and still had the pre-58 cargo doors with high hinges and no recess and the 61/62 narrow tailgate with large rear window and only one pop-out window.
1/8/67, baywindow production started, but there is no mention after that in this book, so I cannot verify if German bays ever had factory fitted hinged cargo doors (optional or otherwise). I might have been staring at the 76-78 Fleetline, and I easily bow to Fig superior knowledge.
When I get home I shall look in my other book...
It's a really cool book. Fig's probably memorised it...
Chris, according to my book, Fleetline production in SA stopped after 78. After that it was all bay window without splitty parts. It carried on in Brazil though.
