Amazing how the french have somehow gone off the rails with the designs that they have come up with. - Certainly as far as ease of working on them
But on the other hand, the rear wheel drive Reno's were another story - Dauphine, Dauphine gordini, R8 , R8 gordini And of course the lovable R4.
- Owned a selection of of these - All amazing cars!
But ---- with the R12, 16ts, and of course all the modern stuff doing anything on them is just a nightmare - total built in buggeration!
Well having said that, I wish I still had one of My R8 Gordini's - certainly offered a different kind of pizzaz- and not too much in its class and above could catch them, outhandle them or outbrake them!

More old fart stuff --
The 504 is also a beaut - the GL model had independant rear suspension and a work drive diff with a brass crownwheel that required castrol R40 oil. Unbreakable car in the true sense of the word.
The GR model was a southafricanised version (cheap) with a solid back axle and started falling to bits when you drove it out of the show room.
Now , for those of you that might remember R40 oil, I few capfulls of it in the petrol tank of anything made the exhaust fumes smell like racing feul of the day - Very important accessory if you wanted to be hip when pulling into the Americano for a milkshake on / in your Zundapp , SS50 or 55 Okrasa Oval with reversed rims of course!

Even more O/F stuff -
I had a Corona GSL 2000 which was bright yellow> I hated the bastard thing from the moment I drove it out of Imperials show room in Rosettenville. The company at the time dictated that we buy "sensible" cars with out allowance - It had ZERO ZERO pizazz. I am ashamed to say that it was one car that I never once washed personally. Vowed to never again own a Jap car. ( but now love Honda's) - part of the problem was that I had a French racing blue R8 Gordini at home which I was having a love affair with. - made everything else seem like a tank!
By the way the Corona cost around R2800 incuding discount at the time.

After a bit of a battle manged to get the 504 running after standing for 3 years. NOw it too will be going to a new home this week
