Hi I use caustic soda diluted in water to strip paint from parts.
should you not rinse and wash (read: extremely thoroughly) you will have issues especially those nooks and crannies which holds the stuff. I normally wet sand the steel parts with soap and water as well. then there is no issues. problem is that this promotes rusting immediately once the metal is clean. Normally i use a degreaser made by Revet called SDR which contains a little bit of sulfuric acid (but still save for hands, the product was meant for the milk industry so is environmentaly friendly jada jada) then I paint and have no real issues but dont wash at your peril.

As I said just wash the bi-carb' off thouroughly with water, let dry and then immediately apply your base coat
Bi-carb desolves and can safely be rinsed down the drains with no detrimental environmental effects, this stuff isnt the same as caustic soda, its rough grade baking soda

Yep, the guy said the surface has to be prepped/cleaned after soda blasting, the soda has to be thoroughly washed off as it does leave a protective film on the metal.
We always rinse off with a high pressure water jet, this maybe why we have had no comebacks so far
