Little bit of an update.

My car cover didn't do the job it said it would and I found more water on the pan tonight.
So I got a little drastic and did something I never thought I would.

I used cake flour to suck up all the moisture. Yea, I know... not a design feature, but it worked. The pan is now bone dry and Christn is now covered in some make shift plastic bags held down with a series of high power neodenium magnets, hopefully this will keep the water out, especially since the car cover is over them as well.

I took lots of pictures, so they will be coming soon.

Have you spoken to sarel about that pan? Do you want a concours pan or a high quality non oem repair?

Sorry Blitz, haven't spoken to Sarel yet. Got way to bussy. I'll contact him asap. I'll go for the high quality non oem repair depending on price.
This is very much an exercise in balance. When I give in one area I have to take from another. So... its always a question of money vs. gain.

And keep in mind... I still have the fastback pan. The sections that are rusted in the Notch pan, do not seem to be rusted on the Fasty pan... this might
just end up being my saving grace.

Are you going to use those 356 wheels

Get in line karmakoma, there is a queue of about 10 people hounding me for those wheels, and that's not counting the calls I'm getting from Bloemfontein and Pretoria.

I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking the first guy to offer me 10k can have them, cause I'd be able to give the project a major finance injection. But then I'm not sure I'll accept even that

Right, things are moving forward. I got XLNT panel-beaters and spray-painters to come around and give me a quote today.
There was a fantastic vibe when they arrived to inspect. To top it off, I have seen the quality of their work and the guy that will be doing the job is a VW nut, as attested by the work he has done on his own Oval.

The quote of the day is: "Waar die doner het jy daai ding in die hande gekry." And that is verbatim BTW.

So, if any of you have any reason for me not to use XLNT for the panel beating, spray painting and pan work...

Yes, all things have a price, and the quote is definately not cheep. But I'm willing to throw money at this, withing reason. And the quote, is withing reason.

Pickup is scheduled for this coming Monday. Anyone with reason not to use them, please raise your concerns now!

My normal concern.

Does not matter is the guys loves VW's or not. He does it for a living not a hobby.

Your car will take the back seat for smaller quicker jobs. Then at the end of the week \ month they will do a little work quickly and want money.

Dont bother with getting them to commit to a schedule, they will run behind. Rather go visit them every Friday to see what work has been done and complain, rant if there has been no progress. It you dont do this your car will go to the back of the shop.

When they ask you for money, always give them less. When the body work gets to the end you dont what to be in the situation where the money you owe them it less that the work due.

If you give them any extra parts, get them to sign for it. They loose things. Also take pictures of everything. They dont know what a VW type3 wigit looks like but if you can show the 'handlanger' what it looks like, he will know where it is.

Haha! What excellent advice. If only... but so you learn... I've learnt the hard way, the costly way and the duration way...

I should probably mention, that I'm stripping the car myself. I'm not going to give them the opportunity to "lose" anything.
Even the wheels are coming off as I know there are more than one un-scrupulous jack-asses out there that will gladly relieve me of them.

Before they take it, I will get statements and signatures for everything!

Progress has been made
My apologies all, I've decided to stick to doing the progress reports on my site, it's usually late when I finish a shift on Christn. So even copy/paste becomes a nightmare.
