Made a quick call to Dave Rowley regarding the disc set up and they are Golf 1 all pound.

The rear disk is actually a golf 1 front disk.

Calooker?? Then where's the handbrake??

That's right, and the front disc (or rather the wheel hub) is a Golf 2 rear wheel hub. What disc then goes onto the hub is immaterial as long as it fits your stud pattern. Simply because Golf 1's didn't come out with rear discs, not even the GTi. Golf 2 GTi, and GTS came out with rear discs. The way I understand it it that the Golf's rear wheel bearings are the same size as the Beetle (and T3) front wheel bearings and vice versa. I might be wrong, feel free to flame away...

Regarding Golf 1 front disc's, the inner bearing is the same and the outer one has to be changed, well thats with Calookers kit. Unless its changed since I bought from him.

I cannot remember what bearings I used on the rear disc's. Altziemers again. Or this liquid diet that I'm on at the moment.

HR the rear disk has nothing to do with the handbrake, and from what I can see in the pic. it didin't have a handbrake cable connected, and I am not sure from the pic what caliper is on the rear but it's a front caliper that can't accomodate a handbrake.
The kit I supply uses a stock inner beetle bearing & seal and the outer is a front outer type 3 or a golf 2.
I have now together with a buddy developed a new front hub kit that uses the stock beetle inner & outer bearing and doesn't tuck the wheel so far under the fender as the previous kit.
A Jetta 1 CLi had disks in the rear.
With rear disk conv. regardless of hub or PCD the stock beetle bearing & seal is used.
Yes the rear Golf hub bolts onto the front of a balljoint beetle & Type 3 but not on a K&L pin stub axle without modification.

Golf rear caliphers have hand brake cable levers since they have handbrakes. Even my Ghia's hand brake is connected... Seperate disc from hub and disc from calipher, mix and match and you use golf 2 rear hubs up front, slight change to one of the bearings, I believe, with a golf 1 front disc if you want, or that off a golf 2, and use a golf 1 or 2 front calipher. Then you use a golf 1 wheel hub and disc and a golf 2 rear calipher, and bob's yer uncle and fanny's yer auntie, you have discs all round, wheel bearings that fit and are replaceable with stock items and even a hand brake!! The rear bearings don't come into play, just the hub that takes the disc should fit onto the splines of the drive shafts. And I think they do. Problem is I didn't do it myself (yet). I had it done.

R&G, you cant use a Golf 1 front hub on the rear, the hub is custom, as the Golf 1 splines are completely different.
If your ride has handbrake it doesn't show in the pic.
BTW it will still be more affordable to make a custom hub for the front of a T3 or BJ beetle than to use one from the rear of a GTI golf as they are prety expensive.

It has, I had all kinds of trouble sourcing new cables. Turned out to be the ones with the little loop, not the ones with the little ...er... stubby thingy... (highly technical term, I know...) They had to be made up longer.

Golf 1 gti had rear disks. Had one once.

The Ghia looks awesome. The sides are KEWL. I would have painted flames instead of the black, letting it show its past life.

Thanks HR, for posting those pics. Before anyone else makes a comment, I know the rear number plate is skew. It is at the top of my punch list. Thanks Tom, yes, she's got a hot past... Still, I wonder where I would have been had the fire not happened. Probably still trying to get those ar$eholes to finish what they started...

WOW, my type of custom. Neat, great colour, and not OVERDONE. I especially like all the detail touches. Of course, not everyone will like the tin opener graphics, but on this car, it works. The fact that it's a type 34 makes it even more special.
