Wash the area with caustic to neutralize the acid, then with soap and water, don't spare the water. (the solution to polution is dilution) Use the caustic, you know what happens to your jeans when you get acid on them, everytime you wash them, the hole gets bigger! This only stops when you soak them in caustic, why should your battery tray be any different...Hloni wrote:Disembowelled Ol' Betty, seats out, vinyl carpets out, “sound proofing” thingy out too, then in came the vacuum.
Eish, the battery acid is chowing her, any suggestions about what to do in the battery bay?
Took the rear bumper off too, cleaned the black strip, want to put a reflective tape so I may be seen at night. Thinking RED reflective as opposed to the amber 3M stuff, but might be the cheaper option.
What did you do on your car today?

Re: What did you do on your car today?
EMPI changed the caliper bracket to a casting from a fabricated item. I was the lucky winner of the first such kit is SA. The caliper cleared the disc by about 0.5mm and also the cut out in the casting did not allow the caliper holes to line up. But with a bit of TLC I got it all working.Tony Z wrote:why do you say "bolt on"?
wasnt it such an easy fit?
I did let Volkspares know as well. They gave feedback to EMPI.

Sure for that R&G, am goin' into the city today to get the stuff. Might also get NS1/NS2 which Chris swears byRon&Gill wrote:Wash the area with caustic to neutralize the acid, then with soap and water, don't spare the water. Would this concuction also work by the breakfluid reservoir?

Re: What did you do on your car today?
Had a couple of days off last week so did the annual engine service on Friday: Set valve gaps, new oil, new fuel filter, new plugs (correct gap too), new tappet-cover gaskets, new sump gasket, gave her a wash and fixed a sad-looking generator wire yesterday afternoon. FORGOT cars in the park! Kill me now!

Re: What did you do on your car today?
My day: Started the SC this morning, first time,no hassles. (should have known
)
Drove down the road and the oil light came on,and then went off.So I pulled into a garage, checked the oil, added two pints of oil.
I drove off with the oil light now off and went to do what I have to do.Stopped at the dealer where my DC is "stored" to remove some personal items. As I left, the oil light came on again and this time I was too far from a garage to stop immediatly.
I just took it easy up the road and was almost at the garage when I heard a loud bang and the engine just died.It was siezed solid.
We towed it home, and the only option I had was to remove the Buggy's engine and fit it in the DC.BAB (thanks Bob!!
) came to help me at around 6 and we removed both engines, did a carb and genny swap and by ten she was running again.

Sheesh Chris, what a day!
One thing you have to love about the ACVW's, how many other cars can you SWAP AN ENGINE on in a couple of hours! Well done to you both.
Makes me sound patently lazy, I made a red air filter decal (in dusty conditions change the oil daily otherwise every 3000miles), saw the old air filters originally all had them on.
Checked and cleaned the horn button, looks great, but still no working horn! too late to crawl under the car and check the wiring. This weekend then...

Re: What did you do on your car today?
Looks like nobody worked on there cars this week.
I stripped a steering box and a front suspension today out of curiousity. Will source the bearings and oil seals are reconstruct next week.
Can some one tell me why, in the steering box, the metal shaft has worn but not the brass bush. This is strange to me. As we all know brass is softer.

Dumping the oil on your driveway and replenishing it with fresh oil hardly qualifies as an 'oil change'

Re: What did you do on your car today?
Started replacing my head lights. Painted the new "old" units and then a 5 min job took much longer cause somebody in the buggies past welded the headlamp mounting bolts.
Paint was still a bit fresh, so will finish the job on the week end.
