409 km/h Veyron eater

Post by Pine »

This is total madness
EVO Magazine just released info (and pics) about that very special project from German Porsche tuner, 9ff. If 9ff sounds familiar, you may remember it as the company that has set a couple of street legal records with highly modified 911s. It appears they have given up on the 911's rear-engine configuration in favor of a custom vehicle with its engine mounted amidships.

Specialist Porsche tuner 9ff is going after the Bugatti Veyron’s top speed record with this, the Porsche GT9, a 900bhp-plus mid-engined supercar loosely based on the Porsche 911. The car is currently being assembled at 9ff’s impressive new factory in Dortmund, Germany, in time for the annual Auto Motor und Sport top speed shoot-out at the Nardo test track.

9ff boss Jan Fatthauer hopes the Porsche GT9 will achieve 409kph (254mph) to eclipse the Veyron’s record of 407.5kph (253.2mph). We reckon it’s a good bet – in late 2004 9ff’s Porsche 911-based V400, powered by the company’s 840bhp engine, hit 387.9kph (241mph).

According to Fatthauer, the GT9’s 4.2-litre flat-six will produce 'at least 910, possibly 950bhp'
thanks to the advantageous positioning of its twin turbos afforded by the mid-engined layout.

If the GT9 makes 409kph on the 7.8-mile bowl it will be an impressive achievement – the Bugatti hit its speed on the 5.6-mile straight at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track.

American specialty manufacturer, SSC is currently going about that task in a slightly different way, and Koenigsegg and Saleen seem to have vehicles available that would also challenge these speeds, but 9ff has experience here, as
well. They've already had a Porsche 911 go 241 with just 840 hp. Sorting out what kind of record this would be is a bit tricky. Tuners are generally separated from production cars, but specialty manufacturers can actually qualify as production vehicles, even if they sell far fewer cars than the tuners.

It’s a measure of 9ff’s growing reputation that it has already sold two 9ff Porsche GT9s at 400,000 euros plus local taxes.

Let them achieve it first before they lay claim to the fastes car in the world.

The other thing is,is that the Veyron is a production car that achieves these speeds and it's limited to 407 for the sake of the tyres.

And the Aero...

The Shelby Supercars
Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo set the new World’s Fastest Production Car record with an average top speed of 255.83 mph.

On a temporarily-closed 2 lane public highway in Washington State, the SSC Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.11 mph (413.83 kph) on its first pass and 254.55 mph (409.71 kph) on its return pass, achieving a new top speed record: a staggering 255.83 mph (411.76 kph).

SSC used a turbo V8 outputting 1183 HP and 1094 lbs. of torque. The use of lightweight carbon fiber materials allows for a low dry weight of 2750 lbs. giving the Aero TT the production record for lbs/hp ratio at 2.33.

The Ultimate Aero achieved 0-60 mph in 2.78 seconds and 1/4 Mile in 9.90 seconds at 144 mph.
The Aero TT is not completely stripped either, it features air conditioning, power windows, power mirrors, a navigation system, and a 10 speaker Audio/CD/DVD. Base price is expected to be around $585,000

Here is some good news.Try beating this.

"The Bugatti Veyron is already considered to be the supercar supreme with a rarefied 300 unit production run for the 1,000-hp beast and a top speed of 253 mph. The Veyron's already ridiculous stats will be getting a boost if you believe a "secret and confidential" memo stating that Bugatti will end the Veyron's production with a bang. The rumored GT edition of the Veyron will have mad sick power to the tune of 1,350 horsepower and 1018 lb-ft of torque, and upgraded ceramic brakes with new active aerodynamics to control all that power. Apply all that force to the pavement and you'll hit 62 mph in a mere 2.4 seconds while being able to stop the car from there in another 2.2 seconds, and its new top speed will reportedly be 264 mph. To keep the mighty Veyron planted to the cement, the rumored GT will also receive an upgraded electronic stability program. That would make abundant sense considering power is being increased by 30% over the "base" Veyron.

If you are one of the 200 or so people to already own a $1.4 million dollar Veyron, you reportedly won't be left out in the dark, either. According to the alleged memo, all Veyrons will be able to be retrofitted with the upgrade. The memo states that the Veyron GT would be available March 2009 and be the last iteration before the next-gen Veyron arrives around 2012."

That is 425km/h!
