In all this market volatility, you'll have better luck playing the lotto.

Re: ZAR/USD exchange
Part of the bulk change is that the dollar has strengthened, you can see that against the pound. It has been USD2 anganst the GBP, but now it is around 1.5 again. Good for me as I earn dollars but they get paid into my GBP account. But that's whats pushing the ZAR. The other thing, the recent peak, I think was influenced by the rupture in the ANC ranks. The skrik is wearing off again now... I'm no economist, but that's what I reckon... Flame away...

They have no choice but to lower the petrol price. And if "Protex King" and his entourage start aknowledging the fact that there IS crisis' and stop making stupid comments in public and sort out their party, maybe there will be business confidence in our country.Proof of this is JZ running around the world acting as president and trying to convince the world there aren't any problems because the ANC "got rid" of them.
Keep your eyes focussed on Sandton.

Re: ZAR/USD exchange
dem the economy is real bad, steel industry is sufferring the wors in its life, arcelor mittal is closing the factorys in SA for the first time in its live, Newcastle works will be closing its doors on the 8 of december 2008 and will be opening at the 20 january 2009, first time in its life and what is worse is they hope they will have orders for steel or else it will mean longer times of, we all have to take leave, if we do not have enought leave we will get unpaid leave for this time, all our contracters are getting fired some time in nextweek as i can understand, this is bad, anyone have for me a peace job this 2 months?

Re: ZAR/USD exchange
Suzie, please explain. We are crying in our company for roof sheeting, but we cannot get, because there is no steel.
But, you say you are closing shop because nobody wants steel. I dont understand, or am I missing something.

Re: ZAR/USD exchange
What is happening at the moment is that the mines aren't producing, scrap dealers aren't selling scrap to the foundries because of the low prices.Selling steel at the low prices is also difficult because it is too expensive to produce.
At the moment China is selling off steel at almost any price just to get it sold.Nobody is buying and everyone is holding on to their money to see what the economy does.
This is the whole problem. The market is dependant on the consumers. If they don't buy, there is no flow of money because no-one is spending money. If no-one is spending money, demands drop and production slows down.
It's a vicious circle.

Re: ZAR/USD exchange
HR what is happening is taht we produse steel at a cost say of +/-$500 per ton, we use to sell it for well over $1000 per ton, now we cant get outr steel even sold for $200 per ton, and that is already a lost of $300 per ton just on running cost, then on the othe rhand we can produse steel but no one orders steel, cant run the company non stop if you only get small orders that will keep you busy for 2 or 3 hours. Newcastle works use to send out +/- 10000 tons of steel per day to customers for orders and then we were still behind now we do not get orders and we battle to send out 100 ton of steel a week.hitlers revenge wrote:Suzie, please explain.
