You probably read that I was looking for a SCAT crank at first, but the supplier informed me
that SCAT only manufactures cranks for the type 4 once enough orders piled up, so that was a no-
go. I then ordered parts from Aircooledtechnology and these finally arrived today. I also got the
new Nikasil cylinders- 102mm - (all in one piece) and the MSD ignition system plus the turbo.
The crank is a 78mm stroked/counter-weighted crank with type 1 journals. The con-rods are
CBperformance race rods - 139.7mm which gives me a rod ratio of 1.79:1 which is not as high
as I was hoping for but should be OK.

These are the heads - LE 180's. I took the "BUS" heads instead of the better ported/flowed
LE 200/220's because I was a bit worried about the strenth of these due to more metal that would
have been removed from them (this is only my opinion).

The first thing I noticed was that the plug angle seems to be different and of course they
have bigger stainless steel valves installed. Porting has been done up to a point, but I'm not
done with them yet

This is still a big problem - the JE pistons they sent me are 96mm and not the 102mm I ordered.
Neither are they dished like I asked. The CR for a flat top piston will roughly come to 9.6:1
static, but with a 16cc dish it drops to 8.1:1 and I'm sure you'll agree, that's a bit better.

Other goodies are HD rocker shafts, bearings/gasket sets etc. I've already got the crom-moly
pushrods and a SCAT camshaft (276 adv duration). I must say Jake Rabe was not impressed with
my choice of camshaft, but since it's going to be turbo'ed I think the cam will be OK. It's
not a high-lift cam and should be easy on the rest of the parts.
Now the plan is to get the standard motor running to dial in the carbs/ignition and then the
performance parts will be installed (once I get the correct pistons) I also got a Inovate LM 2
AFR meter to get the air/fuel ratio correct (e-bay is an EXPENSIVE habit!!).
I would also suggest that you buy the following gift for the wife for womans month:

Because it's perfect for this:

I would like to thank Mike Egan at THUNDERSPORT for the effort to source and supply the initial
parts for me.
Tony_z, if you read this, I didn't take Jake up on that SAFEGAURD unit only because I'm trying
to get a hold of a new one which is modified to work with the MSD ignition. Thanks for your effort
though in following up on it.(that's just me - wanting new stuff and not 2nd hand).
That's it for now. Cheers.
Mario.
PS I think tonight I'm going to take that crank to bed with me while wispering "my precious" in that
sibilant slur of the LORD oF THE RINGS movie. NO wait - conrods tonight - crank later, NO wait the heads...
