Re: My rides
Finally got the '79's engine covers back on this past weekend, after standing for about 2months waiting for some intake manifold gaskets.... who would have thought it could be so hard to get such a simple thing. Anyway, the engine is more or less clean now. Didnt have the cash to overhaul the engine, in anycase she still seems strong and wasnt smoking, only leaking some oil (odd ,lol) so i decided to skip it till ive got more money. Just replaced as many oil seals as i could... pushrod seals, fanhub seal, distributor o-ring, tappet cover gaskets, oil cooler seals and then i overhauled the starter, the alternator and the distributor at work. I also overhauled the carbs, did such a nice job at it this time i actually removed the '69's carbs and did them all over AGAIN aswell! If only tuning them was as easy as overhauling them! I moreless have learned how to tune them but i dont have any vacuum gauge to get them exacly in sync... quite tricky. Stuff seems to be gioing well so far, gona try get a donar kombi for some extra parts this month, need a fuel guage sender unit before i can put the engine back in... wish me luck!
Anyway, here are some pics.

Re: My rides
Type 4 engine gasket sets are still listed at spares shopes here in the Republic, but they are pricey..

Yeah i can imagine. How bout a fuel guage sender unit? Ive scoured this area and there is nothing... now my only hope is from a donor bus or last resort will be to order.

Re: My rides
Doubt that you'll find one new. Then again, you'd never know if a secondhand one will work or not. Is yours (fuel gauge) 'lying' or a complete mute?
