Re: My rides
Here are some more pics, you can see she was in pretty bad state... but for N$750.00 with engine and gearbox still intact, what and excellent buy she turned out to be!

Re: My rides
Hey NamAir - she is one sweet ride! Those EarlyBays tend to grow on one, dont they? How does she handle the sand?

Re: My rides
Hey Pine...
thank for the compliment! They sure do grow on you dont they!
Im running 185 tyres which are a bit thin i guess, but all i do is take some air out she cruises along the beach woth no hassles! Could be because we've got the 2 litre motor in there with the 1600 gearbox, great torque but not much top end at all. Hoping to fit a 2litre box later. Previous owner had that motor fitted in 1986, she originally had either a 1500 or 1600 beetle motor. Thats why theres no bumper on the back, doesnt fit that exhaust.

Re: My rides
My '71 is a daily ride, with a standard 1600 engine. Keeps up with city traffic quite well, except for the uphills. Never been on sand though... Why don't you join us for the KKK weekend next year, and drive with us down afterwards to the George show?

Re: My rides
That sounds cool, would love to join. Might be a bit difficult cos im in Namibia, havent taken the bus across borders yet... will have to see when the time comes. Thanx for the invite though!
My '79 is pretty mint... bought it from the original owner for 12grand, she had some minor oil leaks so ive got the motor out at the moment. Might deside to use her for the KKK then, or maybe my brother can take the '69 and ill bring the '79!

Re: My rides
Hi Nam, I never thought about it last night, but how did you modify the crossmember of the Bus to take the later engine?

Re: My rides
Here are some early pics before the engine overhaul and engine bay tidy up, maybe they can help a little. The crossmember has just got some brackets added on to the original mountings because the engine sits slightly lower than in the newer models. Its a real tight fit, but it works.
