Power output is going to be severely limited with a twinport manifold. You'll do a lot better if you can find a manifold for the DCD.

With a good exhaust and twin carbs, I'd guess that the engine would push around 80hp.
We aimed for an easy driver and torque, not aiming for big hp

Yes you right Tony, but as I will be going to FI I am not prepared to blow R5000 on a manifold that will be stashed later.

Image

Have made a good adapter with smooth fuel vapor flow passage and I am sure I will get at least 95% flow from it which I can live with.

Size of tubes and flow not much different.

Image

Image

As the heater tube was totally blocked on this manifold, I had to cut a section out of the pipe and using a extended drill bit, drilled it open again.

Then we welded back the section removed and cleaned it up a bit. this is part one of the heating of the manifold.

Once the motor is in, we will have to repair the bought GT2 exhaust as it has no holes in the heater takeoff's.

And on top of this, I will have to weld a pipe in to free-flow the one side, because at this time, it will not heat the manifold at all.

Image

Image

So now we are ready to fit the Weber 36/36 DCD which we jetted to the best option for the aircooled 1776 cc motor.

Image

Image

And we prepared the motor for the assembly process, and have it ready to start.

Image

Well we will do what we can in the next week so see you then.

Get ready for a huge fuel bill and crap perfomance with that carb setup.

@calooker

Thank you for your post Rui,

I respect your opinion but would need more info to support your statement.

My feeling is the same for this Weber as it is for all Weber carb's

Everybody on this forum told me to stay clear of the 34 ICT's as they are crap.

But I as many in the aircooled world that understands that a weber performance is purely due to two things,

One, the correct jets
Two, the correct installation and setting up of the carbs.

I have only had major praise for the weber 34 ICT and would buy any from the guys that want to get rid of them, no problem.

Can not see the 36 DCD being any different.

From a lot of world opinions, it was the go-to carb for Alfa. Audi, Golf, Passat, and a lot more

To the point of Fuel injection being taken off and replaced with an 36 DCD

Beside the normal Weber to do's, I would think that the heating of the manifold would play a very big part,

That is why I when through the effort of cleaning the heated tube and having to fix the bought exhaust to get max flow through the heating tube.

as you have a lot of fuel cooling and freezing on its way to the pistons. as well as having the right fuel mix when the 2nd choke opens.

Due to a major vacuum drop when the 2nd choke opens you could land up with over fueling due to lack of air.

Now we come to the reason why I got the 36DCD, well it was cheap, as the guy could not set it, and if need be I can disconnect the 2nd choke .

Then I will be having the same as a single choke weber. (ie 36 ICT)

3rd I can remove it and still fit my old carb on it without any hassles. Bolt off and bolt on.

Will keep you updated on this installation, I too am very eager to see the outcome

Feed back from anybody running a 36 DCD would be more then welcome..... Please

Thanks

Herman

Will do once the carb is running correct and the jets have been matched to the motor.

Slowly busy with assembling the motor, no rush, as we are keeping the Hahn mobile as we have a few car shows coming up.

Have fitted the 36DCD to the manifold and also bought a pan air cleaner for the 36 DCD.

The brand new filler was delivered, and strait away we cut it up.

Image

Why you all ask, would you do a silly thing like that ?

Well as the DCD sits right up against the fan shroud, and can not fit.

So we cut the mounting section out the base, cut more base out so the mounting bit can be welded back thigh up against the edge.

Image

Fitted most of the tins and the J tubes, also the dizzy and the spark plugs and wires.

She is looking very , very nice

Image

Image

Image

You will see we do not have much space for the air-filter, will be close, here hoping it will fit under the hood ...

Image

Also tried to grease the front end but broke a nipple and found the others blocked,

so will have to get new nipples and a few tubes of grease to push out the old grease.

If the front end then will still not come back up, then we will have to fit coil-overs.

Also removed the steering wheel and centered if as it was off straight and very irritating while driving.

Bent out the foot peddles as they where to close together and we kept hitting the wrong peddle every now and then.

Will let you know how the greasing goes, and if it helped.

So long hear no time....

The Hahn has been to two car shows so far, and she travels well, smooth and comfortable.

The next few shows we will take the Fatback and Beetle as they have sent a letter of complaint to the 3 managers.

Main complaint is lack of attention and mileage, so we will use them for the next few shows.

So we have decided to remove the Split Fleetline motor from the Hahn and re-install it back into the Fleetline.

Then fit the rebuilt 1776 cc into the Hahn and spend time setting it up.

How far we will get is due to the cold spell we have here at the moment which makes working in the workshop very unpleasant.

So till the next time

So even though the weather has been bitter cold today, we Managed to do the rework to the Tip2GT exhaust.

Following a insane amount of enquirers with regard to this fix, so for all of the only one, here is what we done...

We removed the one heater tube connector to the exhaust, and fitted a pipe to that mount plate, then bent the pipe so it can enter the back of the silencer, and land up inline with the outlet tail pipe.

This will ensure it has no or very little back pressure ensuring the heat flows in one direction from high pressure to low pressure.

This should give us max. heat in the manifold, and not just hot air going from side to side.

Image

Then fitted the whole thing to the motor ready for installing the engine.

With the Hahn's cute ass in the air, and the Fleetline's motor already removed, we now near ready to fit her own motor.

Image

This we will do when a bit warmer..

I think I was probably the 1st member of the forum to "judge" the Hahn in person.......got my 👍👍. Except that "me" or "myself" nor "I" wants to own up who damaged the front of the left side door !!
Well done to you!
Now that I buttered you all up well......I want to see a pic of the linkage to the DCD

On the 2nd last photo you can just about see that there are no linkages but we have two small pulleys.

Will be a lot clearer once the cable is fitted, so will post photo of it them.

Much easier to get the cable to run in different directions and angles with pulleys.

Being Sunday we have the pleasure of posting what we have done the week.

The Hahn's 1776 cc motor has been fitted, and we fitted all the tins and electrical's.

Also fitted an extended sump, as we had the Fleetline motor with extended sump in her so we know it will not be too low, and it worked out fine.

Image

We fitted the pulley's and the nylon rope for the accelerator cable joint, with return spring.

Here are a few pictures for you Nick on the setup....

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

We set up the timing staticly and after filling with oil, gave it a turn of the key......

What a joy to hear her start up with her own motor,

Sounds good Thanks @TonyZ

Gave her a run-in, even that she did not need it as we never changed the cam, but always better then not.

She runs perfect but I would still love to get her on a dyno and see if the fuel jets as fine.

Did find that the fuel jet pump on the carb is a bit fast and gives too much fuel too early

But we will give her a test run and see how she performs.

Till then

Glad the engine runs well. She sounds neat and smooth.
Remember the early oil changes as the rings will shed a bit of metal as they run in.

Its been a bit.....

Yes as some of you may know the Hahn lost its 4th gear on the way to George this year, and I had to turn back and return home in 3rd gear.
So yes, we finally have the box fixed and all is well on the test run, so will be taking the Hahn on a run to Dispatch Car show on the 21 st October to make sure all is in order,
We then plan to take her to George this year.
So see you guys there
