Dark Green VW T2

Post by andrewgdbn@gmail.com »

Hi - I am looking to establish this green on a 1968 VW T2 - tag says colour 160. I have heard of Java Green and Delta Green but none of the paint shops in Durban have the formula for these colours so best they can do is use a spectrometer. Many thanks.

See: viewtopic.php?t=37160&start=30

Thake note, the German colour Java green's code is L 518 but IIRC it is not the same colour of the 'local' 160 Java green.

Thanks - is 160 Java Green - I saw a code 610 for Java Green? Plus being a 1968 it should have been imported fully painted surely?

Parts where imported, but bodys where made in South Africa

SA paint is not the same as Germany, and the formulations today do not match the past.

Looking at the vin plate, it looks as if the bus was repainted and that the original colour was not green.

Best bet is to take the cubbyhole/ glove box door or a bracket under the dash, off and let them match the inside colour and you will have a more correct original colour.

Hi Herman - thank you. I am confident green is the original colour as the previous owner bought it from the original owner in green and repainted it a powder blue. The dash has also been repainted but the inside panels reveal the green which is also the colour on the registration docs.

Hi

Colour code 160 is Java Green, with a White Sand roof. Your bus appears to be its original paint around the VIN plate, not sure where Retrovan is looking.

I think using a spectrometer from the original paint will be your best bet.
