Gearbox codes

Post by Andrej »

Good day esteemed fellow vw fans,

Kindly assist me in identifying these parts:

1. Engine with code SFDR.
2. Engine with code SFH.
3. Gearbox with code SFAS.
4. Gearbox with code 7229756 and no letters. Looks almost identical to the SFAS box.
5. Gearbox with code SFAB.

A question. Is there a way to check engine and VIN numbers before buying?
I.e. that it is not stolen.

Good day all,

Where do one find a breakdown of the gearbox codes.?
My gearbox is AC 2588744 SF.

Also any one who can refer me to a Bearing supplier that can help with Gearbox bearings.? I need bearings but the numbers I have does not align with any from SKF, FAG, BMG...

Best regards

According to this page https://www.limebug.com/how-to-guides/view/32
The AC means your gearbox is for a 1500 Beetle. I would assume the SF is for South Africa.
