Hi Guys.
The Solex 34 Pict 3 on our 1600 TP buggy is toast... Vacuum leaks all over, mostly on the throttle shaft, verified by spraying carb cleaner onto the shaft while running.
The result is a very erratic idle and rough running that simply cant be adjusted and run for more than a single outing before needing a tune again
I am looking to get a replacement, I can't afford the 6 K original Solex and am then looking at whether I should be going for something like the 32/36 weber or 40/44 Idf carbs. I wish to stay single carb centrally mounted and I know this would need a new inlet manifold.
Fuel economy is not the main focus, but I obviously don't just want to pour raw fuel into the motor....
I have an almost new SVDA dizzy to go with it if suitable as well.
All other elements of the motor are standard and we plan to fit a 4 into 1 exhaust in the next few months.
Any thoughts or suggestions or even leads in one of these that would be suitable at a reasonable price?
Thanks as always, Keith

How about:
Remove shaft
Cut grooves
Fit rubber o-rings
I plan to do this and see what happens.

Honestly I haven't removed the shaft as yet as I am worried that the small screws holding the butterfly on will snap... Believe it's highly likely.
What would you use to cut the groove? And would you cut these into the shaft or the carb?
I did put very narrow Fibre washers with rubber inserts on them onto each side of the shaft and it made it better but not perfect...
Was a really bugger to get the tension between the two sides of the shaft right to ensure smooth operation...

The easiest is to remove shaft, turn it down a mill or two and make phosphor bronze bushes to fit the casting.
Then you just replace bushes every few years.
