Re: Correct size battery
Both Beetle and early baywindow originally had a 630 battery. Most buses have had bigger batteries fitted though.

Re: Correct size battery
If you have spot lights and/or sound system I would use a 634 in the beetle

In a beetle application, where battery lives under the rear seat:
Remember to always re-fit the insulating safety cover that came with the car. Otherwise seat-springs will short out causing a fire.

Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.

Won't a rusty original VW metal battery cover do the exact same thing, if the protective isolation on the inside is gone?Dawie wrote:In a beetle application, where battery lives under the rear seat:

Re: Correct size battery
The original insulation in the battery cover was a thin layer of cork. I always add a layer cut from a rubber floor mat or inner tube to insulate the metal cover.Pine wrote:Won't a rusty original VW metal battery cover do the exact same thing, if the protective isolation on the inside is gone?Dawie wrote:In a beetle application, where battery lives under the rear seat:

Many, many Beetles have burned to the ground after the seat padding caught fire from the springs shorting out against the uncovered battery when a heavy person sat in the back.

Re: Correct size battery
While looking through a box with beetle parts I came across this cover. Never seen one before but the feint sticker on top indicated it was related to the battery.

Re: Correct size battery
Hi guys,
I'm trying to get some info on the battery for a 1600 bay window.
I am planning to add a speaker here and there, as well as a camping fridge. Not yet sure if I'll add more, but there is a slight chance.
What battery would you suggest with a setup as described? I'm getting confused as I've seen many different answers to this question.
Thanks in advance

Re: Correct size battery
best to use a "normal" battery in the engine bay and a second one to power your auxiliaries. That way if you drain your battery by using the fridge, you can still start the car on the other battery. Seperate the two from each other with a big relay (cheap option)
