1965 Beetle For Sale

Post by Danny »

Good day all,
I have my 1965 1200cc 6 volt Beetle that regrettably I have decided to sell. the vehicle is in constant use and runs exceptionally well for a 55 + year old lady. The vehicle has ever only had 2 owners and comes with all supporting original documents, log book, service book, original registration book and both sets of original keys. Tyres are good but spare is tired. Engine was replaced in 19 87 by VW South Africa. Structurally the vehicle is in excellent condition however would benefit from a nice new spray job. Upholstery is original as are door panels, hood lining and all dials and knobs. Brand new 6 V battery. Comes with some spares. This car is for a true enthusiast / collector so please don't insult the grand old lady with ridiculous offers.

Sweet looking Beetle!

If your old lady is so sensitive, then maybe give interested a parties a clue where to pitch their offers. In general, failure to put a price on an item for sale is simply an invitation for lowball offers.

Lovely Beetle Danny,

if I may. It's willing buyer, willing seller. We know you're a willing seller, but what you perceive that car is worth, and what the market dictates, and what people are prepared to spend, are two totally different worlds, so, try not to get angered by the offers.

Good luck with your sale, she is a grand old lady.

cheers

Alan

The sad fact of the matter is that as nice as the car is, its still an over 60's beetle.
Should it have been an pre- 60's beetle, you could have expected a price of approx. R50K or more
Hope you get your price, best bet is to stat what you want, and you will not be disappointed
Good luck with your sale.

R45k seems to be a good price for such a clean original.

Hi Fig, I am looking at what 60s model beetles are being advertised for and this leads to a question I have...R45k and it will need a respray, is R45k still reasonable? Also what will a good spray job cost?

I just want to get a better idea of what I can expect to pay for one and its not intended to be criticism.

Why would you want to spray a great original car.... Plenty of bug in worse condition that you could spray ( and buy cheaper)

I am just going on what the seller stated. In some of the pics there are spots that look like rust. It might just be the light but it looks as if the right front fender at the bottom near the light can be bent a well.

Personally, I think this Beetle is worth more with its scruffy original paint than if it were to be repainted. Some classic cars really need to be repainted; this is not one of them. I pay less for repainted cars than for scruffy original paint.

As I said above, I think R45k seems reasonable for the car as it is, assuming there is no hidden nastiness that has not been pointed out by the seller.

I'm not sure what you on about Herman, but there is no reason why post '60s cars cant command 50K plus.

This price domain is definitely not reserved for pre '60s beetles, Ovals and Splits etc. Im not sure why you feel that its a sad fact that post 60's beetles are worth less.

Too many people under estimate the value of an original beetle, with its original paint, albeit with a few scrapes or spots here and there.
This bug is definitely worth R45K.

Too many people have a misunderstanding of what an Original beetle is. Once you restore or repaint it, its not original any longer. That vehicle is now restored and falls into a different bracket altogether. Due to ignorance, many people are herded into thinking a repainted car should command a higher price, than an original patina, unmolested beetle or bus.

You just answered your own question, I do not believe that there is a price limit, but the car market does.
I will pay for a beetle what i believe its worth, not what the market dictates, but do not blame me for the Gumtree selling price, just have a look at this forum, See how "Fast" the beetles of good condition are selling, that is my point.
That Beetle is Nice, Is it for me,,... No, .. but it may be just the ticket for someone, and that person may pay R60K for it, who knows.......

Good luck with the sale.
